I heard today one unit shuts down feb 9 and the other one shuts down fen 11th. But the bug news I heard today is that Texas parks and wildlife do not want to take care of the park after the plant shuts down and the owners of the plant are going to slowly open the damn and drain the lake. This is nit a joke but it is what I heard from a employee of the plant.

It's now been said the damn gates will open and the lake will be drain down to the bottom of gates which will be down 7 feet. I don't think the boat ramps go that low.

This would happen to the TXU side of the lake before they would ever drain it http://hrcranch.com/ranches-for-sale-listing/lake-creek-ranch/

Interesting! We should all get together and buy it & split it up. Spent a lot of my income @ A&M on kids education and driving down Hwy 6 past Reisel seeing that giant new coal plant that replaced the plant that removed from the shores of Lake Creek Reservoir. The new plant borders this property. Dont know where they get the water for steam for this new Sandy Creek Generating Station. Brazos River maybe? Interesting sale.

I've heard so many different stories on Fairfield that I don't know what to believe. A few people that work at the plant and some other locals in the area say there is no way that lake will be anything other than a mud hole without Luminant pumping water out of the Trinity to keep it full. They say there simply isn't enough natural inflow to maintain the lake at any respectable level. No idea how accurate this is. However, if you read all the reports on the fish kills on that lake, it basically blames them on high water temp and lack of natural inflow to purge the lake of nutrients. That lake may be history by August or September, if not before.

Not sure if that new one is coal or gas, I believe the new plants cooling pools are just much much smaller now, believe there is a newer plant just east of lake limestone too.

The lake was really really low for years before it filled up after this last drought, not sure if that was by design or not but I think not as I heard they were having problems pulling enough water into the intake with it that way. You could barely use the back ramp, the south ramp was unusable. Although it does have a poor watershed I was under the impression the rain filled it up not pumping in from the trinity.

We use river pumps to add water to the lake to keep the level high enough for our intake pumps. Without river pumps we would have had trouble.

Were those pumps down when the lake got so low a few years ago? I know LBJ and maybe limestone? are also constant level lakes that get water pumped into them.

Once Luminant sells their properties and if no entity steps up to maintain the lake, there will be no one to lower the flood gates on the dam to release water, so they will be lowered permanently to prevent future flooding or dam breakage. This is what has happened at previous TXU/Luminant locations where a county, TPWD, or other governmental agency has not stepped to up take control.

HAVE ANY OF YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT FAIRFIELD BEEN THERE? CAN YOU READ?

There is a BIG SIGN at the gate. The lake has been sold to the city. It is gonna EVENTUALLY be turned into a water treatment lake and the property next to it is gonna be a treatment plant.

The lake ain't going ANYWHERE.

We have to pay for the water we pump into the lake from the river. In drought years we are going to keep enough level for circulation pumps to work, not full pool.
