I'm looking for some insight on the effects of the full moon on white bass and striper fishing. Does anyone have any ideas / experience on this?

Just my personal opinion but the solar lunar sites always rank full moon as best times to fish.
I can't say that I believe it to be true.
I think full moon with no clouds allows fish to feed at night and therefore not be so hungry during the day.

According to the Hubbard moon man, tomorrow is a 4 fish rated day. That is the best rating.

Steve, my experience in different fisheries has been that some, like kingfish, go full tilt on a full moon. Others, like chumming for snapper , will nearly shut down. I'm still in the learning phase on the striper and white bass on whitney and can see where that might make sense. When I was commercial fishing for kings, we fished straight through day and night for several days around the full moon and had action most of the time. They just seemed ready to eat , regardless of the time of day or light conditions. I have never even tried for stripers or whites at night yet , so it will be interesting to see how that goes. have you ever slabbed for whites at night, thumping ?

I agree. It might be best if you fish at Night. smile

Last night was a blazing moon. I fished today at Canyon that has had
a top water pattern going on for two weeks. Skunked ! I was hoping that
we would get cloud cover come in last night. Alas, no. That's fishing.

I have never fished at night so I can't comment on that.

Fishing at night has produced fish for me. I have not done it in a year or so. the key to me was get there early enough to get my lights up and on before night came so the bait fish would find me. if you dont have bait you dont have fish. it takes a couple of hours for it to start to work. or did for us. i have been three times to hubbard in the lake week and a half. i cant find them. it was crazy good and just fell to nothing. they dont seem to be south of thirty anywhere.

Totally agree. Both the moon part and clear sky zero clouds.
Through in no wind and I'm staying home or going to the fishing barge to shoot the breeze with fellow anglers.

I also agree with Steve. Thus, afternoon fishing should be better on full moon. Re smooth water I love it - easier on me, and fish still bite Mepps.

Hubbard Moon man here! To me it's all about trial and error. Have used the moon/sun charts all of my adult life. Used to buy Texas Fish and Game magazine and use the monthly charts in there. And the Dallas Morning news had a weekly chart for years. With the Internet it's an App now. I use iSolunar. Have also kept fishing logs. The fishing activity is highest during the new and full moon cycles. My personal history and logs shows the increase in activity to hold true. Who knows for sure. It may just be the magnetic and gravitational pulll that pulls me out to fish more during those times! Thus increasing my chances of catching. Try the app and do some testing. It has Major and Minor times. I've actually booked guides and taking off work to fish during the cycles. But that's just me. As my buddy Plano Keith always says. Catch 'em! P.S. Egg rolls from Todd are not included with the app. Those are sold separately!

Yesterday's experience at CCL supports my view. I went out at 10AM and sitting over structure where there were fish, I could not get them to respond to thumping - which supposedly tells them other fish are feeding. They were full from eating during the night under a full moon. About noon they finally started to respond to thumping - they had had time to get hungry again.

Full moon, half moon. some moon, no moon?..
If it is 40 degrees plus and wind under 10 mph I get in my boat and fish.
They are somewhere and some will bite. Location and presentation.

However.....60 + years of experience tell me they definitely feed more on a full moon due to being able to see bait profile/shadow better. 2 or 3 days pre and post full moon the bite is better late afternoon and evening.
