Looking for advice on "must haves" baits, riggings ect. This will be my first trip down there. Fishing the State Park area in late February, out of a kayak.

Could use your guys help on making this trip the best possible. Appreciate any help, tips, advice.

Heavy rod, 65lb braid, bobber stopper, 1/2oz bullet weight, 5/0 superline hook or 5/0 flipping hook, whatever soft plastic you have a lot of confidence in

1/2oz and bigger lipless crankbaits red and/or chartreuse

square bills, 8ft, 12ft, 16ft, and 20ft crankbaits in a chartreuse color.

Most of the "glock" statements will be from guys who have never been. Really a cool lake to fish with a better than average chance(way better) at some really good fish. Heavier tackle. MH-heavy rods. Braid, 20lb mono, floro or copoly....whatever you prefer. I have done well in past with larger baits: 1oz football jigs with larger trailers(full size brush hogs...), 10"-12" power worms or Zoom Ol Monsters, 3/4-1oz spinnerbaits, DD22's....Its just a lake-fish your strengths. Or check here for up to date honest info and fish where, how and with what they advise you to do: http://www.tackleandrods.com/ Go have a good trip!

I'm hoping to fish this lake in April or May, have before, love it. My fav of all the lakes in Texas I've fished so far, from the top 7 or so last time. Love having to upsize gear, that's the best part. Have fun, post reports! Gracias

Nailed it! Yes, not necessary to take a gun to Falcon. I've never ever had a problem or felt like I needed a gun. Use common sense and you'll have a great trip!

As far as baits, check out James' report at tackleandrods.com. At the time you're going the only things you'll need are: watermelon red lizards, Rage craws, squarebills, a jig, and a spinnerbait.

Mag Flukes, 5" and 6" Senkos, 1 and 1 1/4 oz football jig with Rage Craw trailers, 3/8 and 1/2 oz flippin jigs, 3/8-3/4 oz tungsten bullet weights, lots of them, bobber stops, flippin'/pitchin' baits, BIG hooks. Superline hooks on all but senkos. Use a lighter wire hook on them. 4/0 or 5/0, spinner bait, square bill and DD cranks. I wouldn't discount a c-rig either. That said, I've not been in years, so none of those things may be working right now. 20lb and 25# fluoro, 65# braid for snaking C/Bs through tree tops. Flippin' sticks and fast reels. Go see James and Tommy at Falcon Lake Tackle. They'll have every bait you want plus up-to-date info.
