yet I still did it!!!! Started lifting again after a five or six year lay-off and knew that I needed to lift light for awhile to keep from getting sore. Nope - load the rack and see if I can still lift as much as I used to. Chest was ripped for a week, I walk like I have double hernias after leg days and I have to lower my head to my hand to shampoo my hair because my arms are so damn sore I can't lift them. Feels good to hit the weights again!!!

I sort of know that feeling.
If you cats remember, I mentioned a few months back that I crashed on my dirt bike on a trail going down rocks. The way I put my hand down as I was falling downhill, upside down, I stretched my body so far that I tore/ripped a corner of my left chest muscle. It really hurt, and yes, shampooing, putting on deodorant, anything where you have to stretch or reach across your body, is very painful.
Heal up...
The amusing part from you post--"knew that I needed to lift light for awhile to keep from getting sore." Maybe should have put in there, "getting sore or injuring myself!"
Oh the things we put ourselves through. Hope you heal well and quickly.

The 'injuring myself' will come once I can get up to some serious weight again. I once broke my right collar bone during a decline bench press when I was pushing up 550 lbs. No hit to it or anything other that I had so much stress on it that it snapped in two. I just hope in my older age (52) that I realize that I don't need to lift that heavy anymore.

I cycle on and off heavy lifts too often. Some weeks its short heavy sets. Some week its lighter weight more reps. Other weeks its heavy. I am currently just trying to maintain which sucks a lot. No growth but no back sliding. Pretty sure its because of winter (lack of sunlight) vs schedule, diet, and available time although Christmas put a hurt on my overall eating habits.

It's easy to do with weights. My wife complained every time she lifted heavy last few months....I finally told her to quit going so big, I was tired of hearing about it. LOL!

I'm 52 as well, and don't lift heavy anymore. In fact, I only lift my body weight by way of floor exercises.
When I was in my 20s, and a gym rat, my super strength was my calves. I put hundreds of pounds on the calf machines. I probably damaged my back by doing it as well.

...------ /\ wisdom Your body has plenty of weight to work out with after you are 35 imo
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

A fitness instructor at the local gym told me that he wished that his calves looked like mine. I told him that it was easy to do. Just get your weight up to 300 lbs for at least a year and keep all your cookies on the top shelf.
