Planning on spending a day in the yaks on the Guadalupe on Saturday, February 3rd. We will be fishing for a little bit of everything, but certainly most interested in bass and boating a few trout for dinner. Seems the trout bite has been on lately. Anybody have tips on what baits work in this part of the river, what the water clarity is like, or any other info in general about this body of water?

TPWD Guadalupe Trout
Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited

So, a couple of links that should help to understand the first 4 miles of the Guad from the dam. Understand that there are special trout sections of the Guadalupe below the Dam with special rules regarding artificial lures and creel limits that you need to know. Single hook in-line spinners will work on the trout...just be sure you know if you're in the trophy areas or not before you decide to keep any trout and make sure you know the size and creel limits. There are some monster Stripers in the Guad just below the dam...so don't be surprised if you hook into one of them and lose all your line. For Black Bass, my best bet has been still, quiet water off the river and any area that a Bass can hide behind to ambush prey without fighting the current. The further down you go the shallower the water gets so be prepared to drag your kayak and watch out for all the members of the GRTU who will be fishing for trout. Also, a lot of the land adjacent to the river is private so also be very careful where you stop and stay in the in the river to be legally safe.

Float from Rio raft. It's free this time of year. I go upstream a ways to the bridge. Some go downstream.bank fish from below dam for keeper trout. 5 I think. Or hueco springs
.

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

Thank y'all for the information. I was aware of the size and numbers regulations, but I appreciate the reminder. I'll have to put the location of the change-over in my GPS so I don't make a mistake and wind up having an unpleasant conversation with a friendly game warden. I'm excited about the prospect of catching trout in Texas; I've only ever caught the saltwater version down on the coast. I'd also love to land a Guadalupe bass. Are they fairly prevalent in the few miles below Canyon, or would I be better suited to look for those in a different part of the river?

Guad above canyon lake has a bunch of guad bass I hear. I always fish below the dam and on down for trout. There's some big trout in there from the tu stockings. Only got a couple guads on rooster tails down below dam
