So my wife bought me a kayak for Christmas... I tried it out and was super sketchy.. so what I am asking is there a certain length or width that you need to have to be comfortable and being able to fish out of it without flipping? Or is it time on the water with it... It seems like it is a little small for me. Also can anyone share a photo of their kayak set up.. like the tackle box, etc...

What make and model did you get? What is your height and weight? With that information a lot of folks could possibly help you out? First time in a kayak or canoe can feel unstable if you haven't spent a lot of time in one or if its been a while since you have.

I am 6'2 about 250lb... I have the Sundolphin Journey 12 SS
I feel like im going to just give it to my wife and get a new one because she had no problem scooting around on that thing when we brought it out.... But we also brought it out when it was 35 degrees so I was so timid about every movement to not fall in...

They will all feel unstable until you get used to them. You'll be okay. Just remember to keep your head inside the gunwales; if your head gets outside the gunwale you're going over. Buddy up with an experienced yakker to learn the basics. You'll enjoy it. Once you get used to the feel of it you'll be right at home in it.

You definitely need a bigger kayak. You are pushing that one to the limits at your weight and being taller your center of gravity is higher making it even more tippy feeling. Not going to get into which one is best but you really do need something that is closer to length and width of the one below. Will carry your weight and gear a lot better and paddle better. Lots of choices if you look at all the top brands. I just listed the one below because I'm more familiar with them and the guys your size that have used them. Check them all out, go to one of the dealers in Dallas area that carry several brands and see what they have. Test one out if they'll let you. Most will. https://www.wildernesssystems.com/us/products/ride-135

Is anyone around the Longview Area?? The one you listed is way outta my price range lol I still use my boat alot, but want to do some yak fishing too.... I was looking at the Pelican Premium Enforcer 120X Angler 12' its 1.5" skinnier than the one you listed.

Im 62 and 250 and will say the ride 135 was a great kayak for me. If you will look at used kayaks you will be able to find one in the $500-$700 is you are patient.

You're tall and pushing the weight limits. A good rule of thumb is not to carry more than 70% of the stated weight capacity of the kayak. That means you, the seat, your gear, cooler, anchor, etc. Performance suffers, and you start to push the safety boundaries.
Get a good, lightweight paddle, a comfortable PFD, and a kayak better suited to your physique. There are a lot of good choices available. Decide if you want a sit-inside or a sit-on-top and go from there.
With the Pelican you're looking at, you're up against the weight capacity again.
There are many ways to add accessories. Whatever you get, take it out fishing a few times, see where you naturally put things or reach for things. Then start adding accessories or drilling holes for things.

I had a 28 inch width kayak. Sold it quickly. I'm used to 32 to 34 inch wide. Big difference in stability.
