It's been a long 2 years since the light bulb went on in my head. I have made dozens of prototypes, Filed a Provisional Patent and then The regular patent app myself; designed numerous 3D models, contracted with manufacture for Generation 1, Imported products through Customs myself, and sold the first 100 Wash Away Fillet Tools. Then because G1 was so heavy; therefore expensive to ship, I had to redesign to stream line to get shipping cost down. I'm a newbie so I'm not sure if its OK to talk about this here. But this thing is the best thing since the "barbed hook". Now if you don't catch many fish; hence don't clean many fish, this is probably not for you. Unless, you know someone who does and in that case this thing makes a great gift for any one who cleans a lot or even a few fish. Lets face it, cleaning fish is anything but clean. Any way, I think Ill stop here until I figure out if this is ok to forum about here. I want talk money or even try to sell one here. I just want to talk about it. If I cant talk about it here, then where if you know.

Yes it is the Wash Away Fillet Tool. You know when I write it down it doesn't look like much but I've been working on this from 2 or 3 AM till 5:45AM when I have to go to my day job, for an hour or so in the evening when I get home and all day most Saturdays and Sundays. I took a week off just to do the prior art search for the Patent Application. Which I did get U.S. Patent No. 9883681. The Patent will officially be published Feb. 6, 2018. Just found out about that last Monday Hooray. The main thing I wanted to do was make the product so inexpensive that anyone would just by mine rather than rig up something themselves. During my prior art search, I did find several things that were attempts to accomplish the job. Some looked like they worked ok, but nothing worked as well or was as simple as my invention. My first production of the Wash Away Fillet Tool included a cutting board. Thinking that an all in package would appeal to the market, I produced 100 to test the market. It was a big fat FLOP. Everyone who saw it loved it but it was too expensive. The weight of the HDPE cutting board cost too much to ship. To be continued. It's time for breakfast.

I did a show at the Bass Masters Open in Orange, TX last year. The turnout was dismal Father�s day I guess at any given time there would only be 25 people and most of the time less than 10 walking down the mid-way. It was mid-June, record temperatures, made it a miserable physical experience. However; I did not really go to sell them as much to find out what strangers thought about them. Up until that time, the only people who had seen the idea were family, people who worked for me or wanted to work for me. Everyone who stopped to look thought it was a good idea and most a great idea, most thought it needed to be bigger (close to the coast bigger fish needed bigger tool). But one guy, said �the only thing special about it is the spray bar.� Which I already thought about. My patent covers the use of the spray bar as an attachment to a larger work surface. Like I said the cost of the cutting board and cost of shipping the cutting board made it too expensive for most guys. Including me since I had to eat shipping one to Illinois and one to Tennessee because the shipping calculator on my self-built web site wasn�t set up correctly.
Hence; Generation II of the Wash Away Fillet Tool. Gen. I had a lot of flaws, poorly designed it was labor intense to manufacture. One of my original ideas was to make the spray bar by the plastic injection molding process. The mold was a little pricey, but the product is beautiful, uniform, easy to produce, and only weighs 3.5 ozs. Everyone who cleans fish has a fillet board, table, or some surface to clean fish on. Now there is a simple and easy to install device that will make the job of cleaning fish really clean. The �Wash Away Fillet Tool� comes with everything needed to install on most all cutting boards and surfaces. You can make one yourself like I did when I first came up with this idea, but I�m sure that by the time you purchase the items needed to home make one not to mention the time to lay out the holes and drill them and assemble everything, you will have spent more than $25. I don�t expect to get rich off my invention, maybe it will supplement my retirement. However, if you use the Wash Away Fillet Tool, I think you will agree that it does solve two problems. One is the mess created while cleaning fish. The Mess consists of the slime that fish secrete, and the blood, bile, and feces that come from gutting fish. This mess builds up fast on a cutting surface. It makes everything sloppy and nasty. Your hands, the surface, the knife and worst of all the fish fillets. Now, all of this can be washed off with a water hose, but part of the problem is stopping to do this.

So then just go sell them?

Seems like your spending a ton of time trying to justify it to nobody on here cause I don�t see anyone asking any questions.

For me, I�ll just use my regular ole cutting board and sportsman�s bucket to wash my filets as I get them.

I really don't like the idea of the water running the whole time I'm cleaning fish. JMO

Live in the country so we do not like to waste well water by leaving a hose running. 'Sides I never catch enough to make that much of a mess while cleaning and I like the break I get just to grab the hose hanging below the cleaning table on a hook and turn the cutoff nozzle on and rinse, then I usually only have a couple left to clean at the point anyway. Good idea though, just not for me. Thanks for sharing.
