I just retired and have flexibility (not unlimited money😭) and want to go to Falcon at least once this year!
If you could go anytime of the year when would you go??

Now... well at the next warming trend.

I see the highs the next 8-10 days are 70-76 but the nights are still showing low 40's - 50.
I am anxious to go but I hope to catch great conditions and make it the trip of my dreams!

If you want to play it safe on weather/water temps, March is a good month. The weather has been crazy this year. Only problem coming down now is you can get stuck in doors or have limited areas to fish. A stiff north wind can make it hard to get around.

If water temps are still 50's, the first week they stabilize in the 60's will be on

I say look somewhere around Mar 1st, weather permitting. Full moon is that day and there should be a huge wave of spawners coming up.

The earliest I'd go would be two weeks from yesterday.
Take a look at the Accuweather extended forecast for Zapata (the newer computer models tend to be freakishly accurate even up to 30 days out)

The low yesterday was 35 degrees.
The long range forecast essentially shows a solid warming trend starting today that will likely run all the way to fall.

If you like fishing for hungry, fat prespawners that have been aggravated by the unusually cold mid December-mid January; I'd go in two weeks

There is a Bass Champs event there second week of February, so it might be more crowded than usual first two weeks of February.

So if you want to avoid that, and let the bass recover from the tournament fishing pressure, go the last week of February.

I'll tell you this, if you read James' report, he says those females are ready to bust. So the next warming trend we have, those fish will not wait to move up shallow.
