Anyone had a skeg repaired or replaced? I found my next boat but the skeg needs repair. I have seen those bolt on covers but I would rather get it done right. I’m in north Texas, southern Oklahoma if you know any reputable places or have any suggestions.

Service Marine in Emory Texas will make it like new. I have had mine repaired there. They did a great job. Highly recommend.

What’s the trick to getting a picture posted? I tried the screenshot option with IOS device.

If you’re closer to Ft Worth, B&B propellor does first class work. I haven’t used them in a few years but in the past have used them several times both with skeg replacement and prop resurfacing/repair. They have been around forever.

Had mine repaired in Houston and it looks great. Crappy paint job that didn’t last a couple months, but the skeg repair is invisible.

If it's not affecting the way the boat handles then I wouldn't worry about it.

I wish I could post a picture to show the damage but for some reason it will not work.

Houston is a long way. How much did they charge you?

Many propeller repair shops also do skeg repair. They weld aluminum props...skeg is aluminum, transferable skill. The process is typically to cut off the damaged/bent skeg and weld a new one on. I'd suggest you investigate/call prop shops closer to you and ask if they do skeg repair.

I use them too often. And yes first class.

Another vouch for B&B prop. Great work, great service as well.

McGill Propeller Lewisville, TX, has fixed my skeg several times. I would highly recommend them.

Believe it was around $200. It was a prop shop that fixed it. They drain and remove the LU to do the repair, so there was quite a bit of labor involved. Was told not to worry about it by a few folks, but just couldn't stomach looking at it like that.

The bolt on type will do the job if there is enough of the old one to bolt to.Had one on a lower unit for years and still doing the job. Would not be afraid to use another if needed today.
