Has anyone had success or have a tried/true recipe? I have some de-boned meat looking to put in the slow cooker. If I had the time I would pan fry but the slow cooker is the best option. Looking for any and all input. Thank in advance. (other than chili...)

can't go wrong in a slow cooker. i'd just put some onion, carrots and potato in with it and let it cook. and of course some garlic.

I just did a 3 pound venison pot roast the other day. It was excellent.

I hate photobucket.

I like to square it up in 1" squares, brown it in a super hot skillet with bacon grease and toss it in the slow cooker...good stuff! Carmelize and add taste.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

It's not a recipe. frown My aunt taught me to make the most amazing venison roast in the slow cooker and it's a bunch of onions, mushrooms, peppers, accent, beef broth, maggi seasoning, salt and pepper, and put a lid on it and let it sit. I make a gravy from the drippings and serve over rice. But I can't tell you how much of any ingredient because I've been making it for years and never learned how to measure it. I'm trying to even remember if that's all the ingredients in it... I think so but this is me trying to remember standing in the kitchen and all the steps to making it.

Thank you all for the input!

Katt - I get it and that's the way I cook anyway...a little of this/that. I have procured sweet onions, peppers, mushrooms, broth, garlic cloves, and the various seasonings. I am going to braise in a hot skillet with a bit of bacon grease before it goes in the cooker. Never made gravy with the drippings but that sounds wonderful.

Thanks for remembering the garlic but there's another one you reminded me of. Just a splash of apple cider vinegar, pepper vinegar, or balsalmic vinegar. Couple shakes of louisiana hot sauce or tabasco won't hurt either but just a couple.

Ah yes thank you for the reminder on the apple cider. I have used that before when doing pulled pork in the crock pot and it makes a world of difference. Tabasco and Tony Chacere's goes in everything I cook!

yes

I love it in the slow cooker. Think like a stew. OK to add some beef bullion to it. I just made some with red beans and it was great. Cook it alone with the apple cider and it gives it a great taste also. Hard to mess it up.

you got me to thinking. i have a venison recipe for a dutch oven that might be good in the slow cooker.
put in layers of potato slices, venison madallions, onion slices and bacon slices. put at least 2 series of these layers and about 1/2 cup water or broth. salt, pepper and garlic added. in the original recipe in the dutch oven, you bake in oven for 2 1/2- 3 hrs., so i'd give it at least 5-6 hrs in the slow cooker. worth a try. might even top with a layer of biscuits?

I like the idea in the slow cooker save the biscuits. Dutch oven yes where the biscuits can brown up and form a crust of sorts but in a slow cooker they would be soggy at best.

i couldn't stand it. thawed some back strap out and put this thing together. as usual, i played with the recipe some. put some bell pepper slivers and carrot slices in it. yeah, i think you're right about the biscuits in a slow cooker. i'll do em on the side. i'll post up the results.
