No one has or ever will be able to explain this. It's been written about many, many, many times. It's just what some people do.

Can't do it...I switch all spinning reel handles to the right side. I'm left-handed, too...cast left, reel right...guess I'm just a weirdo.

You will do yourself a favor if you learn to use alternate hands for bait cast vs spinning or better yet become proficient at both with either hands. Reduces the repetitive trauma that can catch up with you in a few or many years depending upon your heredity, work activity, hobbies, and the frequency and duration of your fishing trips especially during cold months.

95% of mine are left handed reels.....fixed spool and baitcasters. It's how my daddy taught me. I'm right handed. He said cast, flip, pitch with your right hand and have your left hand on the reel and ready to set the hook and wind. He said switching hands with the rod is a good way to miss a fish.

So I've always just kinda done it that way. My right handed reels are for cranking only.

This is true.

I just had a $28k surgery on my right hand from flipping and casting too often.

No surgery for me but went through 6 weeks of rehab for tennis elbow from flipping with a 7'6 heavy action rod and a 1 oz bullet weight on the end of it. I'm slowly learning how to cast with both hands and it ain't easy.

I am left handed and I reel with my right hand on bait casters as well as spinning reels, that is when I do use a spinning reel. I like bait casters way better than spinning.

Get the LH Reels and get used to them and you will never look back at a RH Reel.
