can you get a good pair of shoes from Academy
or do i need to go to a running store

my plan is

Do you like a drop from the heel to the toe?

Do you pronate?

Heel striker?

Do you like a certain brand? Addidas, Nike, All Stars, ect are not running shoes.

I would look at Altra for a roomy toe with zero drop. Or Brooks or Hoka. You can go to each of their website to a shoe fitting guide to help you select a shoe right for you.

If all these questions seems odd or like wth, visit a running shoe store to get input from professionals.

I started with Brooks, but the narrow toe was not comfy. The shoes lasted nearly 700 miles and still look good for work.

I only wear my running shoes to run....once they break down 300-500 miles I wear them to work or daily use.

I now use Altra shoes. Wide natural toe box!!

Lot of older folks love these....comments I hear are...."it's like running on clouds."

I've had a pair of the Hoka Bondi 5's for about an year. They're super comfortable, but the insole is a hair narrow for my feet, I can feel the edge. Didn't notice it when I bought them. I changed the laces to the elastic type with the quick slide thing to tighten and I find myself throwing them on anytime flip flops aren't appropriate with shorts.

I've also got a pair of Mizuno Wave's. I got them at Academy when I first started working out, I was about 270 then and they're just great. I've put some miles on those things. Want to say they were on sale for less than 100, I'd buy another pair in a second.

Go to https://www.runnersworld.com/shoefinder

It will make recommendations for brands/models based on your arch, weight, height, foot strike, weekly mileage, etc. Then see what Academy has. If you're going be out on a regular basis, you'll probably spend a minimum of $80 for a low end shoe.

Or go to a local runner's store whose employees are actual runners, get their advice and try some on, and see if Academy has them. Avoid the athletic shoe stores in the mall, I've found the people there know very little.

Shop late in the day, your feet are a bit larger compared to the morning.
