I would like some opinions regarding a bent trailer axle on my Skeeter 2012 ZX 21 trailer. My wife was pulling the boat home from a camping trip and hit a boulder, concrete, block or something similar that was on the edge of the lane she was traveling. I took the tire off and couldn't figure out exactly what was bent, so I took it to a place here in Texarkana who informed me that the axle was bent. The impact also destroyed the aluminum rim and assume the tire is toast as well.

1. Does anyone know what axle is used on the 2012 ZX21 trailer?
2. How much do these axles cost to replace?
3. Is this typically an insurance claim or do you save the claim and cover out of pocket?
4. Is there a way to straighten the axle or do people trash the bent axle and go new?

Thanks for the help. This is my first bent axle experience, so looking for opinions.

My axle became bent on my Skeeter ZX190 and I discovered this is common on single axle trailers because of weight, hitting bumps and rough roads. I took mine to a shop in Lewisville and they installed a new heavier axle for less than $200 and mine has disc brakes. These axles take a beating bouncing up and down the road. If you watch your trailer tires as you drive on some of these rough roads you can see the tires flexing. I understand Phoenix has shocks on some of their trailers. Wish mine did.

There should be a stamped number on the bottom of the axle. Which will tells the specs of axle.

Replace the axle. Don’t let someone talk you into straightening it.
The axle should have a sticker or tag on it with make and model info like Dexter model xxxxxx. Write down the info and then call around and get some quotes from smaller trailer shops.

I bent the axle on a small pop up camper trailer and the RV dealership wanted 3 times as much to replace the axle as a small local shop. It pays to shop around. The place I used is no longer in business or I would give you their info.

I bought one for $900(new) and 250 to install. It was a torsion axle suspension.

Thanks for the replies. The local shop is going to give me an estimate to replace the axle. I also have a PM from someone with experience in this area that I'll talk to tomorrow. I was hoping this wouldn't require a new axle, but not sure yet.
