Fished yesterday at Monty from noon til 4:45 pm. The high for the day was 37 with no sun.
Had a light layer of thermals on under my jeans and wool socks. A pair of Hi-Tec Goretex hiking boots. On top I had a teeshirt, long sleeve thermal and a Columbia vest. BPS 100 mph suit on top. Had to unzip my parka cuz I was getting warm. Bought a goofy looking hat with from Cabelas with the furry ear covers that worked really well.
The hands are the thing that are hard to keep warm. Made my living in this stuff for years. I cannot find a good glove for casting. I take 4-5 pairs of .99 cent brown cotton gloves with the tips of my thumb, forefinger, & middle finger cut off. When they start getting damp, throw em on the floor of the boat and put on a fresh pair. Works better than anything I have ever tried.

#1 is hydration, your body can't regulate without enough water. Most of us run on the edge of dehydration especially in Winter when we mainly drink coffee and energy drinks. Think of it like your car, we need fluids so the elements don't affect us as much, more water = more clean blood flow to the extremities blood is life and warmth. My .02

d hmmmm Makes sense. I'll try to remember that. But, when I forget, I'll have my heated insoles and heated gloves.

No need for fancy gear.. Here's what I typically wear when it's cold, and since I fish saltwater as well, I also wear these with waders on top when wading and stay toasty...
2-3 layers of long sleeve cotton shirts Hoodie Windbreaker jacket on top of that My Hoo Rag face mask 3 layers of sweat/jogging pants 2 pairs of thick socks Tennis shoes Gloves
I stay toasty all day, even wading in 20-30 degrees. Don't need fancy to stay warm!

Waterproof case so the person that finds the phone can use it?
Unless a cased phone is adequately secured on your person, it may not do you any good based on the suddenness and type of incident that occurs.
If the incident location has no cellular service, will you use it to play games? (Cell service is known to be rather spotty in a lot of rural areas - which is where lakes typically are....
Good luck on retaining a phone if you go int the lake violently in an instant. Using it successfully while bobbing in rough waves rolling over your face? ...good luck.
The phone is a good idea, and the case makes sense, but those are WAY down the list of how to remain safe on the water. The phone better fits the "I hope someone can bail me out after my stupid move/decision" category.
Using one's brain to make sound decisions is the most important step by far. If you don't screw up, you are unlikely to be in dire need of the phone (that may be useless) in the fist place.

??? Tennis shoes ??? hopefully NOT when it is raining. They tend to get wet. Better option is GoreTex lined jogging, hiking or hunting boots. ...Phone... most everything in cold related clothing these days has a phone pocket..... put the phone in a zip lock bag and put it in that phone pocket. Preferrably in that pocket on your Guide Wear rain jacket. Easy to get to and you will really have only one shot at using it if you are in the water. ... I know it is a pain the A$$,,, but in rainy weather and cold weather have that throwable tied to a long rope and on the deck. It might save a life. Hard to stay afloat with all those layers of warm clothes getting water soaked. The throwable floatation device will help there and the rope can be used by teammate to pull you to the boat. ... One more thing,,, if by yourself,,, never run the TM with continuous power. Hard to catch that boat if you fall in and you are by yourself, especially if you are an "older" person.
the last sentence in the Flippin-Out post is by far the most important

Tape hand warmers to your wrists; it keeps your hands warm.
