Went fishing for the first time of the year today. Yesterday I met with Mr. Bobo himself and purchased a thumper as I have been wanting one for a while now. This morning I had some family stuff to do in Whitney and figured I would wake up early and hit the lake first. Mind you I have only dead sticked a handful of times and have never fished Whitney in the winter. I launched at McCown and just went off some advice I read here on the forum and found a flat near the channel. I marked some baitfish in about 40ft of water and turned on the thumper. Got my dummy poles set out and let the boat drift. I looked over at the sonar and saw the fish starting to stack. Within about 2-3 minutes of the thumper being on I was surrounded by fish. I immediately starting catching white bass and caught a limit within an hour. I then started experimenting with different depths and started catching striper down a little deeper once I had drifted into about 55ft of water. I then caught my personal best striper right off the bottom. Of course I didnt have a scale or a measuring tape. But I estimated the striper to be about 30 and close to 15lbs as this fish was FAAAAT. I cant recommend the Thumper enough, if you fish in the winter I think the thumper is a must. Great first trip of the year and a great way to start off 2018!
