What’s a good hook to use for live perch / shad / minnows when fishing for sand bass hybrid and striper on Tawakoni. Just getting started and looking for advice.

Perch require a bigger hook. I don't fish with perch much but when I do I use a number 1.0.

When using shad and minnows, I use a small number four Gamakatsu octopus hook. I think the small hook helps them stay alive. It will also catch bait stealing perch and usually gets stripers right in the top of the mouth. They are never able to get it out. Also, big largemouth cannot throw it.

Sometimes with smaller minnows I use a number 4 split shot drop shot hook. These are thinner and help if I have too many bait steelers.

Note: Most people use bigger hooks but I like the small ones. One of my fishing buddies get this nice LM Bass on that drop shot hook with a big threadfin hooked through the nose.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I have used this hook for as long as I can remember. Light tempered wire so its strong and light, Ultra point so the tip is sharp and does not fold over like needle point hooks. I use 4/0 95 percent of the time but bump up to 6/0 for larger baits (7"-12")

What size line do you use for your main line and what size line for your leader. Do you use fluorocarbon leader line? If you don’t mind me asking. Also do you smell your hooks.
