Never even cranked the motor for the first 2 hours.. whites were boiling the surface early about 100 yards from the ramp. Down sized to 8lb flouro, medium light rod, and a rooster tail. Had a blast with them today. There were top water fish and birds everywhere I went today. Fun day of fishing!

Good job. Thanks for the report. Are you finding any of the bigger females yet?

Boiling? wow! Water temp must still be warm there? Been to Canyon only once many years ago. Very clear water, pretty lake. Congrats

Water was 55 degrees.. Females and males mixed together as well as the striper. Might be a different game after the front.

Ramp 23... Ive looked for the top water action in summer and have yet to see anything on Canyon during the summer.. Canyon really isnt like any other lake as far as patterns go. It has its own way of fishing lol.

Yea, that's just the opposite of my ex-home lake Lavon. Weird. So I guess they were surfacing in the cove near the ramp, must have been filling up on shad ahead of the front I would think.

Its def different than Lavon it Tawakoni. Its also a smaller surface area lake, but its 150ft deep by the dam. They are feeding on ghost minnows.. tiny tiny minnow looking things. Usually you see shad bait balls come up before the fish. But right now you just see the whites and striper popping the water. Lake temps down here are just now in the 50s..
Top water action has been farily consistent since September. They are actually gorging before they spawn, which will probably start after this cold front and full moon. Water temps down here drop down to spawn temps.. unlike north east Texas where water temps have to warm up too the spawn temps. a little further south we already have a river full of sand bass and people catching limits. We dont have a dead sticking season at all. The fish Im catching are loaded up at the mouth of the Guadalupe that flows into canyon.. I dont go up river to catch sand bass in canyon. As soon as the top water action disappears Ill be searching wind blown points and flats and theyll be spawning there. I love reading the reports from lavon and tawakoni but they dont help me much on Canyon lol.

No problem, just have to get on the lake and start hunting and stick with it when its good. It can def be tough and have days that seem like theres no signs of life in it lol.
