Who owns Monticello? Is it privately owned or does it belong to a city, county or the state of Texas?

I'm wondering if they will soon stop keeping it at stable levels with water from Sandlin. I like it with more visible stumps. banana

Got this off TP&W web page on Monticello so it sounds like they own it.

The park and ramp are operated by Titus County so I guess they own that. Luminant owns the power plant. The whole thing sounds a little confusing to me but as long as I get fish there I could care less.

It's currently owned by the company that owns the plant. Was Luminant but I think they were purchased. The lake itself is regulated by TPWD. I have no idea what is happening now that the plant is going off line. I would assume it will just become another Texas public lake. The RV/Tent camp was purchased by someone private about 6 weeks ago.

Who knows but outside of the bad situation of people losing their jobs, I am one of the few happy the lake will become a "normal" lake moving forward.

I was just curious since it is privately owned, has there been any talk of closing it down to the public now?

I figure that Luminant owns it.
They shut the mining facility down just outside of Sulphur Springs this past year and they are donating the 4900 acre property to the city of Sulphur Springs. If it is privately owned they will probably donate it to some entity.

Since TP&W controls the fishery and Titus county controls the park and ramp I don't see where that has anything to do with the plant closing down. Once the plant shuts down ( only one unit is currently running ) the lake will be like any other Texas lake as will the fishery. Probably want get the traffic as it did though. One thought I had was the probability of re-tooling it to a nuclear plant like Squaw Creek. TXU built Squaw Creek so they have the technology and resources and there is definitely a need for an electricity provider in that area.

Pretty sure no retooling for nuclear plant, all the planning for 2 more at Squaw creek have been done and are moth balled for now.
