Is it still to early for shad to move into the creeks? Do we need it to be a little colder? I went fishing today and bait was tough, I tore my deep water net last trip and haven't replaced it yet so I was marking shad deep just couldn't get to them. It would surely make life easier if they were.

They should be in the creeks now if not after this next cold spell I bet they are. I like to fish Ray Roberts and bait up here is real tough to find

I went with Carey Thorn on that bait trip he was doing and that was awesome. I am gonna try and apply what he taught me on a creek closer to home and see what happens.

That was a good trip wished he still did them. Its a pretty good drive for me now if they are not there.

The ones on white rock are in back yards right now...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

until just now, I had never of freshwater shrimp. I'd think they would be good for bait.

They're like small ghost shrimp....about an inch to inch and a half long. We were gulping in shad, blue gill and shrimp with every cast. We released a bunch back to the water at the end of the day.

Hello everyone is been a good while since I've been on here. But trying to get back into to it. I took the same trip back in the days with Carey as well and was wondering if any one has had any luck catching shad in the places he showed? Thank you

I don't know about your area but down here at Cedar Creek they have been in the creeks for a long while, or so I've heard.

I got screwed two years ago when a bait shop sent their crew on a trip with me. Went back next day and they were all gone. They came at night and wiped out all the holes in the area. Over 1000+ lbs they took. I was having fun guiding and teaching people how to get them and throw their net. Now I found it easier to just take my boat and get them from a creek I guide at for crappie. I’ll drop clients off and go fill cooler with bait.

I have fresh bait from 8 am today on ice. $7 lb. ( I will have my own post for this. )
