This is about 40 iv put out in 3 years and yes they really work.iv caught Crappie off some in 2 days after putting them in. there is 1/2 th block of cement in the bottom to make them sink.and zip ties on the pipe inside so the pipe cant come back out.

I like that design.
I ran in to some poly line recently and just may borrow that idea

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Rebar strips in the bucket. Others will be a little baffled at the tiny strong returns on the bottom but you will know what they are!
I drop buoy and drop 4 buckets around it then put transducer next to bucket and waypoint.

Do you build them different if the entire (several hundred acre) lake is no deeper than 6 feet?

On average, your heart beats 100,000 times a day. One day, one of those heartbeats will be your last. Then what?

The answer is found in Jesus Christ who said "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10

The milk crates dont seem good to me, too many edges to hang on and pull whole structure up when trying to clear snag.

Yeah those crates are probably not a good idea. You will definitely stay hung in those.
