I just purchased two 10' talons but not sure the best way of mounting them. Anybody have an opinion as to where the best place to mount them is? The boat is a 2016 G3 Talon 19DLX aluminum bass boat. Not sure if I can/should mount them directly to transom or buy the sandwich mounts for the jackplate. Thanks

In your case I would definitely go with mounting them to the jackplate. On tin boats outside of the flat surface where the motor mounts there is no reinforcement and just a single layer of aluminum. In time the mounting points will flex the aluminum enough to cause it to crack. From there it would only get worse.

Go with the sandwich brackets and make sure you check the bolt length before "swinging" the motor.

If its an option I agree with both above and you need to stick to mounting on the jackplate. If for some reason you have to mount them to the boat, I would have a mounting plate made for the inside of the boat and run the bolts through the boat and through the inside plate to help distribute the weight. I would also be sure to use a good sealant to avoid any leaking issues.

You make mention of a jack plate. What size jack plate do you have? I recommend the Minn Kota Talon 3-Piece Jackplate Bracket 1810340 if you have the room over the Minn Kota Talon Universal Modular Adapter Bracket - Sandwich Style -

I've got two 12's mounted directly to the transom on my G3 Sportsman 17. Used tilt brackets, but had to mount backwards to allow them to tilt. Less weight than added brackets and very happy with performance.

I had the same two Talons on my Skeeter TZX190 w/ 175 Yamaha HPDI. The jack plate brackets each weighed around 30 lbs each. Took a lot of effort to get the Skeeter on plain with all the extra weight.

When I traded off the Skeeter last year, Plano Marine - East Texas transferred all my "toys" to the G3. The design of the G3 distributes overall weight forward and without the added weight of the brackets my "hole shot" is much better and the 90 Yamaha quickly pops the G3 on plain.

Ive got a 6 manual. I looked at the mounts that bolt to the side of plate but it dont look like Ill have enough room. I went ahead and bought the sandwich style brackets. Thanks for the input guys. Gtrigg, your boat looks good with those talons on there.
