Hi All, Needed some advice/recommendations on what configuration of reel is best for BIG crainkbaits. been trying to throw them recently and man does that wear you out. its not so much the rod (or it could be, i don't know), but the reeling is quit difficult. what reels are best for big crainkbait (6xd, 10xd, dd22, etc) to help with the reeling itself (gear ratio, particular brand, etc) would like to keep it less than $200.

Abu orra winch is the best bang for the buck, I have 4 of them and I like them better than the 2 revo winches I have.

Lews BB1 5.1 just get the lowest gears you can.. I deep crank a lot and the right gears and rod makes all the difference.

I have both the orra and a bb1pro. The bb1 is by far a better reel in my hands I use the orra as a back up

I have been using the Curado B5 since it came out. Almost indestructible. I also have the orra winch and the LewsBB1. I prefer the Lews reel, if I am not throwing one of the Curados. Of course, I have 11 of the B 5 reels in place on my rods now. Just my .02 worth. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Wow, you guys are all wrong I guess! .....based on virtual argument I had here with some yahoo who claimed he knew what he was doing......his suggested to another guy asking: the go-to for crankbaits is a high gear ratio reel - 8:1 preferred! He claimed it worked great, too!
Where the heck were all of you when I was trying to tell that dufus he was clueless?

I don't know about using an 8:1 but I have fished with Keith Combs and he uses higher speed reels for cranking instead of the 5:1. Don't really think there is a wrong ratio to use. Comes down to what you like.

Where the heck were all of you when I was trying to tell that dufus he was clueless? I saw Aaron Martens say that he went to high speed for everything. It probably only matters if you have wrist or hand issues and plan to be cranking for more than 4 hours straight. I doubt I will by a 5:1 ratio reel but I probably will use one of my 6:1s.

I think spool capacity is more of a concern over gear ratio. If your deep cranking anyway.
