I see a lot of reports of you guys doing this in TX but I don't ever hear of anybody fishing creeks here in Oklahoma in the winter time. Everybody is fishing brushpiles or docks. I know the creeks get hammered in the springtime but that's about it. I do remember fishing one of our "springtime" creeks in February in a deep hole and smashing them throwing a curly tail jig.
I would like to try some winter time creek fishing and see what happens. Would slow rolling curly tails be a good method or do you guys jig the brush? I assume I would need to find the deeper holes where they're stacked up.
Any tips would be appreciated and I would definitely post a report once I make some time to get out there!

I usually just vertical jig the brush piles/laydowns and do well. Anywhere from 2'-14' in the creeks around here, but more often I'd say they are on the brush that's in 8'-12'.

I think in dead winter a lot of the creeks around Tulsa would get too cold for threadfin shad, which is what draws the crappie in the creeks? But if there is a warm run off like from a treatment plant into a main lake that should be good. Shad aren't that smart so a deep hole like the one you described in a creek channel could fool them too. The few times I've tried to hit creeks in that area in the winter to check for crappie there were too many hunters around. I'd be interested if you could catch threadfin in a creek with a castnet. If so that's a really good sign crappie are around. Honestly some of the best creek days here in North Texas the water temp in the creeks was about 45 degrees and shad were going belly up here and there. Some maybe it doesn't get too cold in NE OK?

Thanks guys.
Tony- that's a good point. I'm sure the water will be in the low 40's around here as winter fully kicks in. And I should have known it's all about the shad. That will tell me pretty quick if a creek is worth my time. I'll just have to do some quick idling and see if there's any shad hanging around

MO Eufaula is about as far south as I fish. It's usually a few degrees warmer down there than these other lakes in NEOK. I'm sure I can find them in certain creeks down there, just need to start putting in the time
