I know some things work better for some as opposed to others, but what has worked for you?
Do you fish your spots with no hook, no barb, barbs bent in, etc?
Do you subscribe to the 2 fish rule? Catch 2 fish from a spot or area and move on to gauge the size of fish there?
Do you leave your best percentage spot alone altogether?

I like to scout areas 2 or 3 weeks before a tourney. Do not like practicing shortly before, personally.

Just use your head.
Practice is for finding spots...not fish. It's for evaluating the water and lure colors. It's to plan a day of intense fishing. Not a day for fishing.
If you do find a honey hole....note what conditions are present. Don't bother sore lipping em. They won't be there the day of the tourney. Try to find similar stuff on tourney day. Pay attention to wind direction during practice and how the fish are reacting. Look for similar wind relating to points/banks on tourney day.
If your lucky, the weather is similar. If it isn't, your relying on your own abilities to break it down and fish what you're given.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

No hooksets in practice areas. I do try to ease them to the surface to see what size fish are in the area though.

The current AOY Brandon Palinuik says he goes out everyday to catch the biggest weight possible, practice or tournament. I personally have ruined a tournament by fishing the day before but have also found stuff by doing it

I understand there are a couple of popular techniques before a tournament. - Drive around watching for boats with markers out. Get as close as you can and drop a WayPoint. - Follow the guys wearing fancy clothes and wrapped boat. Use binoculars to see what they are doing.

Usually it starts here with a terminally ill relative.

Wow, I'm learning some new refinements to use if I get back into tournament fishing someday to take my terminally ill uncle fishing. Is it OK to idle up within 10 feet and ask how the fishing is? (That way I can get a look at the tackle on the deck?)

I personally have ruined a tournament by fishing the day before but have also found stuff by doing it pretty much what I do but wont wear out a spot totally. Most lakes get a ton of pressure and me sticking a few is not going to matter. Must work since I won our club championship this year

Put the boat in on game day and go fishing. Let the fish tell you what to do. I think many times people way overthink those tiny brains. If I do happen to prefish I usually stick them too.
