Hello I have made several trips to Monticello back in the day and I'm familiar with it but never went to Welsh was having to much fun on Monti. Now that I'm planning a trip down again after all these years and hearing all the talk about Welsh thinking about doing both.
Does Welsh have timber like Monti.? If it does is it located in a general area were you know were to run or not?
Back them I had the Honey Hole maps that Jerry Dean made and sold but gave them away when I thought I was done. Now that I'm coming out of retirement so to speak are there any maps now days? Welsh mainly I know what I'm doing on Monti. I think...LOL
Thanks for any info.

There is lots of timber mostly north, going south is easy to run. Biggest obstacle is launching and parking especially if you're by yourself. Hydrilla is coming back and the water is pretty clear. Recommend going through the week if you have that option.

There is a map that a guy drew up, do a search, it has been posted in the last year. But as stated, run south down the middle of the lake, but even then, there can still be hazards such as a hump covered in rock right below the surface.

Just be careful. If the lake is down there are some stumps/trees in the marked boat lane in this ^^^ map.

Thanks for the map that will give me a ideal anyway. Is the area in x inside the red lines the fairly clear area? and what does the blue lines mean? real shallow or rocks?

The areas inside the red is the "safe" area to run (check my previous warring). The blue lines are areas to fish. There are others, but it is a good start.

Thanks appreciate the help. Hoping to spend one day on Monticello and then one on Welsh and then play it by ear for the third day.

The last few days they have been running one of the generators on Monticello so I guess it is probably a "warm" water lake now.

Hydrilla down south is back and this is the way I’ve been catching them for a month. Take a one ounce punch rig with a sweet beaver or a rage craw and go to work. I’m catching 10-12 keepers a trip with my best five going 20-23 pounds. 65 pound braid with 4/0 flipping hook in 10-18 feet of water. Best colors are June bug with a bream colored punch skirt. Black and blue eyes is good on cloudy days. I did run north Saturday to look around and lost one in the 7-8 pound range on a spinnerbait. That fish may have been on a bed. Other than that the bite was slow. Hope this helps.

That circle mid Lake is a hazard if the water is low Oh it's a hazard @ full pool too and do not stop and fish that huge hump of boulders just under the surface either
