NOTE -- Vogey found that this post was in error. Thank goodness !!! dxr

GBRA is going to lower Dunlap on 12/15 to kill "invasive plants".
I just saw this announcement. I didn't know that Dunlap
had any invasive aquatic vegetation. I rarely see any
aquatic vegetation in that lake at all except for some
lily pads. Have you guys seen anything ?

I have fished Dunlap a ton over the years and this is the first I have heard. I know Mcqueeney had a problem with Lily Pads years back, which the major complaints were from the Ski and Wake Boaters. Other than that nothing. hmmm

Hmm...this is interesting. I fish Dunlap a lot, and can say that there is really not a lot of underwater vegetation. There are lily pads in certain areas, but no more than in the past & the drawdowns in the past really didn't stop them from coming back. I know there is a lot of "floating" vegetation that I believe is coming from upstream where they clean the Landa park lake and areas downstream. It is interesting if you read the study, it mostly quotes northern lakes and referenced salmon migrations etc. Not sure they really know what they are doing??? & would like to hear a more detailed explanation...like what plants they are trying to kill & what effect this will have on the various species of fish living there...especially during cold spells. I checked the PLDA (Preserve Lake Dunlap Association) website and there is nothing mentioned there, but I seldom find useful info there anyway.

A couple of years ago I saw some protected plantings of native plantings of native
aquatics in the lower part of the lake. No doubt they were lost on any drawdown.

I agree, it's confusing. If anything I think Dunlap need more aquatic vegetation.
The tilapia in the lake are no doubt taking a toll on what little there is.

OK...I think I may have figured this out. There are 2 lake Dunlaps ! This notice is from the Dunlap lake in Illinois. I was reviewing their meeting minutes, and noticed they just stocked the lake with catfish & walleye...WHAT ? Anyway it takes a while, but if you look hard enough you will soon realize the website & minutes don't make sense for OUR lake Dunlap...
