The foot pedal for my Minn Kota won't steer. When I step on the pedal to move the motor one way or another, it feels like it is stuck. I unscrewed it from the deck and looked underneath but I don't see anything obviously wrong with it. Anyone else have any issues like this before?

What model is it? Sounds like a cable problem. Take the head apart and see if it's broken or bound up.

Took the head apart and it's not broken. All of the gears look intact. I'm not real familiar with these so it's possible it could be bound somewhere that I can't see, but I'm not sure how to check that.

Has the control cable gotten too tight or loose? There is an adjustment screw on the underside of the pedal.
It could be the gear teeth in the head are out of alignment. You can take the head off and see.

Take the head off and there will be gears that the cables are wrapped around. CAREFULLY pull those gears up and off the shaft. I say carefully because the cables will want to come off if they get loose. It's not super hard to put them back if they do but when you take the gear off just keep tension on the cables and you should be fine. Then you can move the pedal a little to see if it's stuck or grab the motor and spin it to see if it's stuck. Should isolate the problem anyeay

What the skipper said. I’ve taken my edge 55 apart multiple times. If those gears get out of line the control cables have no effect.
Just follow what he said.

Any chance you bent the shaft? x2? I guess it's possible. I was driving in some pretty rough water right before it quit working on me. I can twist the motor by hand and it will cause the foot pedal to move up and down. There's one spot that I really have to twist hard to get past.

Assuming the shaft is bent, anyone know a good place to get it repaired or replaced? Anyone know how much that normally costs?

You are able to turn it from the motor, and it moves the foot pedal, but Using the foot pedal won't turn the motor?
I would assume either a bent shaft or binding at the collar. Do you have a transducer wire running down the shaft? Have you played with the pedal tension adjustment screw? There are several things I would look at about mid-shaft before I took it in.
I think there is a place in Fort Worth that works on MK, but All Star Marine in Dallas or All Star Archery in Lewisville could probably fix you up (along with numerous other marine shops/boat dealers.

I do have a transducer wire running down the shaft, it looks normal though. I've played with the tension screw, no luck. How do I check for binding at the collar?

Happened to me a few months ago. I probably have a thread on here about it. The shafts are virtually impossible to bend or break. But the bearing will bend and where it is bent the pedal won't turn it. You will feel it bind by hand. If you are somewhat mechanical, you should be able to do what I did: follow this video to take things apart and get your hands on the bearings. See if they are warped. Order them from minn kota online. I had mine in a few days and was able to repair the whole thing in less than a week. Good luck!
