If I am in the market for two new fish finder / gps...
Which humminbirds should I consider? I see there's going to be black friday sales all over, I am wanting the Helix 10 and Helix 9, are these good units? Who is a good source to buy from here?

Mind you I will be buying an 80 Ultrex to go with these....

i got mine last year from Ultimate passage and Hodges Marine, had a great experience with both. I havent looked at the Black Friday Deals this year but I know you can call Ultimate Passage and she will match or beat any price you have been given somewhere else.

As for the Units, I have a Mega 9 on console and gen1 10 at bow, I like both and have no complaints. I am sure I would own 3 Solix 15's if I could, but you cant go wrong with the Helix's either.

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I am going to ask again... What is the chirp difference? Mind you I am wanting to stay under $3000.00 for both graphs and the biggest I want to go with is maybe a 10" screen for the console and a 9" up front.

I am just getting back into this stuff, so I feel like a newbie... What is the difference between the Solis and Helix?

Chirp is a frequency or group of Frequencys, supposed to give better definition, I am no expert on this one but the view is supposed to be better. The Solix is the top end HB, Helix is the sister.

For $3000 i would think you could put a Mega on the console for the SI capabilities and a then get a standard (non-mega, either gen1 or G2) for the bow. I cant imagine needing SI at the bow. If it was mine to do again I would go with 10+ and stay away from the 9's if your budget allows. The 10's have more pixels and a clearer picture. I original had 2 9's but switched my Gen 1 9" a the bow out for a Gen 1 10" and it makes a difference. The price difference in the Mega units has been too high for me to switch out the 9 mega for the 10 Mega but it is in the plans.

Solis can have touch screen and more user custom ability.

CHIRP uses a range instead of a single signal which will give more separation in objects and more. Since you are just getting back into it, it is worth mentioning that you only need one SI unit and you can get the SI screen on your other Helix if you have them networked. So you could have a Helix 10 Si and a networked Helix 9 with only 2D. Something to think about to help you stay in your budget.

You will need to factor in a 5 port network box in this whole deal too if you are going to link the units and the Ultrex.
