Have been doing some research on the timing of a slack tides in relation to high and low tide and have found that what I thought to be true is not. Apparently slack tide is not achieved at the transition from peak high or peak low but rather 2 to 3 hours following the high or low tide peaks according to how I understand what NOAA's explanation is. Anyone have a better understanding of this because I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around this.

My experience is that the more ya fish the more ya know about how the tide is actually flowing, or not flowing, slack or moving and at what time of the day.

There is no substitute for being there, getting that knowledge ... then putting it into a game plan.

You need to understand the relationship between Tide and Current. See this for a good understanding.
