The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our annual Club Championship on November 11-12, fishing Bob Sandlin on Saturday and Cypress Springs on Sunday. 67 members qualified to fish the Championship and we had 30 boats fish the two day event. Weather was cool and dry on Saturday and the wind picked up in the afternoon, but overall a nice day to fish. Fishing was good as 25 of the 30 boats brought a limit to the scales. Leading after Day 1 was the team of Vince Burt and Josh Mulkey who had a monster bag weighing 19.59 anchored by a 9.53 beast. Sunday on Cypress was a different story. The day started with a cold steady rain that continued most of the day. It kept everyone miserable and the fishing followed suit. Big bags and big fish were hard to come by. Coming from behind with a two day total of 27.99 to win were 2016 AOY's Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace whose Sunday bag included a big bass of 5.58. Here are full results and pictures. Here's an awesome picture taken by David Simmons of the ramp at Bob Sandlin at sunrise on Saturday Stories get told as weigh in time approaches Robert Oleson was disappointed to not be able to weigh in this Sandlin giant We can't have a picture of Jack and Fly Scheel without a little photo bomb from Kenny Bunch Our hosts for Friday Nights fajita dinner Russell Olds and Matt Jackson had three for 5.20 Paul Spann fished solo and had four for 6.42 on Sandlin James and Shellye Crawford had a limit for 7.88 Here's Robert again with two of the five him and David Burton did weigh in for 8.65

Sitting in third place after Day 1 with five for 14.95 were Jason Hunnicutt and Travis Reaves In second with five for 15.95 were David Mulkey and Jay Messersmith. Their bag included a 6.15 kicker Sitting on top after Sandlin were Vince Burt and Josh Mulkey who had a five fish limit that weighed in at 19.59 pounds That included big bass of the weekend, a 9.53 Bob Sandlin giant As mentioned, Sunday on Cypress was a different story. The fish got tight lipped and keepers were difficult to find. Robert Hitt and John Bruner had two for 4.66 Eddy Wooldridge and Bryan Toombs had three for 6.21. This picture also captures the ultra camera shy duo of David Choate and Stan Browning... Paul Villarreal and Joe Ruiz had a hard to come by limit for 8.24 Improving on their Day 1 weight were Dale Rettman and Kelly Millhollon who weighed a limit for 9.55

Just missing the money were last years Championship winners Garrett Macias and Bobby Finta. They had four for 9.65 that included a 4.23 kicker Last check went to Chris Atkinson and myself with a two day total of 21.01 Sixth place went to Jason Hunnicutt and Travis Reaves who had a two day total of 21.25. The camera guy could not get them to take a picture on Sunday...Finishing fifth with a two day total of 22.80 were David Mulkey and Jay Messersmith Finishing fourth with a hard fought two day total of 24.76 were Doug Rener and Danny Wims whose bag on Sunday included a 4.80 kicker fish Second best bag of the day on Sunday went to Tommy and Tony Climer who weighed in 15.03 with a 4.18. That gave them 26.19 for two days and a third place finish Finishing second with a two day total of 26.22 were Vince Burt and Josh Mulkey Here are your winners! The best sack of the day on Cypress went to Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace with five for 15.90. That gave them a two day total of 27.99 and the victory. Congratulations! Big bass from Sunday went to Ronnie with a 5.58 That's a wrap on a VERY successful 2017 season! Thanks to all my Officers on a job well done. Thanks to all our members who came out to support our Club in all our endeavors in 2017. Our 2018 schedule will be posted very soon. Our first meeting of 2018 will be on Thursday January 11th. Our first tournament of 2018 will be on February 10th. Until then, have a great holiday season from the Ray Hubbard Bass Club!

Honorable mention on Sunday goes to Matt Jackson who at both our Fish For A Cure tournament on Ray Hubbard and on Sunday at Cypress Springs has proved that BIG flathead catfish live in brush piles! Man they are ugly beasts! And the catfish isn't too pretty either..

I credited David Simmons with the sunrise picture. It was actually taken by Arturo Murga. Arturo is an incredibly talented artist. He is the senior artist with Bassmaster. If you get the magazine or have seen any drawings on the web site, they are his. We are proud to have him as a member of RHBC. Here is a great look at his work. https://www.bassmaster.com/slideshow/arturo-murgas-best-bassmaster-art
