I'll be in Port A to help with the recovery effort December 2-15 and would like to do some salt water fishing. I would like to explore Lighthouse Lakes but don't want to go alone. I am 66 and unfamiliar with how to gauge tides, etc. Would appreciate it if I could tag along with someone who knows what they are doing. (Can't really afford a guide) Any takers?

I had to look up that area. Whew! That looks very cool.

I wanted to mention that TexasKayakFisherman.Com seems to have a larger concentration on that website of kayakers down on the coast fishing in saltwater. I'd post over there, too, just to see what is up, who might be available, other trips going on.

I take it that these "lakes" are subject to the tides but sort of land-locked and not rough water???

debtfree I would love to go but not able to take off any time until after the first of the year. As for the tides they only fluctuate less than a foot to 1.5 at the most normally. On low tides you might drag on the oyster beds and at high tide 99% of the lakes won't be more than 2 feet deep. The current flowing in or out is very low and and no problem to paddle against. You'll only notice the current around the cuts where it comes in and out of the lakes but while back in there you'll never know what the tide is doing. Only tide warning I can think of is if you park at the normal entrance to the light house lake and go in at high tide and come out at low tide, stick to the north side of the cut because there is a big oyster bed on the south side. Like Brad said there is no rough water back in there. Those lakes can't get white capping rollers going because they are so shallow.

Theres a guide service over in Aransas Pass that can tell you all about that area.. Slowrides guide service. I've been into light house lakes and have never been when there wasn't already a lot of people there. The parks and wildlife has a map of the area online that you can print off, they also has gps coords.
