I heard something this summer about a lot of tilapia and baitfish floating on lake Fairfield a few months back. Was bass harmed too? I'm trying to plan a fishing trip with a buddy somewhere halfway that lives by Dallas, I'm in Conroe. Last year we fished lake Fairfield and had a blast. Hope its not a big fish kill.

FF seems to have a fish kill to varying degrees every year, usually in august, likely due to the water not carrying enough dissolved o2. About 5-6 years ago it was really bad and TPWD quit managing (stocking) it, guess they decided it was a lost cause. The bass seem to rebound though.

With the plant shutting down, I doubt those issues will continue.

all that to say ... the bass in FF are probably fine. I don't know how well its fishing right now, haven't been there since the spring.

I doubt it. It's a coal-fired facility. If it is like so many of the other coal-fired plants, it's probably not profitable to operate. And the gubment wants all of them closed down.

These power plants were built to provide electricity. I would think that they are built to serve a certain radius. What happens when they close down? Where do the consumers of Fairfield's (or Monticello) electricity get power after it is closed down? Does it become a situation of "you will have to get power from a lot farther away, therefore you will have to pay more"?

Last few winters lake has been cooler than normal, and we haven't exactly been having cold winters, pretty sure they haven't been running big brown full bore for awhile now...
