As some of you know I do most of my fishing on this trip in the dark most years. Just did not have the right water conductive for it this year. So started moving around chasing water and it paid off! We hit some of the best trout water the Ozarks have to offer and caught fish at every stop. The general fair was working for the most part scuds and Sowbugs with UV Sowbugs and tan scuds being the favorite this year. As we got closer to the dams trout crack, yellow and red soft hackles, Brasie and red zebra midges took the cake. We also gathered up a lot of Intel on places to dock the boat. We were close to bringing it this year but decided to get more info which we definitely found for next year. Think we may just tackled the big river of the white the entire week. All in all great trip we caught fish at every stop. I hooked into by far the biggest rainbow I have ever had on the line on the little red! This fish was well over 10 pounds probably into the teens. I just could not keep it out of the air. It look like a gymnast doing a tumble routine across the water. It finally broke the 5X after it had stripped 60 feet of line in a matter of seconds. Caught a real nice snake River cut although I was really hoping to catch a Bonneville on the Norfork. Beggars cant be choosy I guess. Bonofly also managed to catch his first smallmouth ever on crooked Creek. This is another area we have seen and wanted to fish for sometime. They have not had rain of any amount in almost 6 months! The water was low and Jin clear but you could see giant smallmouth swimming around in the holes. The only problem was the water was so clear they were very skittish. Anyone thinking about running that direction the Spawning Shoals on the big Rivers is shaping up to peak very soon. Would be a good time to set up down from them and intercept big fish moving up. My phone is still messing up but I will work on posting pictures shortly.

Dont think I didnt have one decent night in the dark! Was just Not enough water to fish the entire night. Still managed one pretty decent night. I had 2 rainbows around 18-19 inches just by Feel before I went back up and got my night gear and camera lights. Bonofly and I just decided to make it an adventure instead of staying put and hoping for water. I would definitely have to recommend checking out crooked Creek for smallmouth if youre that direction!

Sweet trip and nice trout.

Fish hard but never forget your responsibility protecting what we love. Leave a area in better condition than you found it, RESPECT!

Sounds like a great trip. Do you remember where you were on the Little Red when you hooked the big rainbow? I have had a more difficult time on that tailwater than any of the other rivers in Arkansas. Have caught a few browns at Cow Shoals but never got a hit during two trips to Libby Shoals.

Thanks guys was a fun trip for sure even though the big browns havent showed their face yet. Jcg57 Cow shoals was dead water almost still. The big bow was 1/2-3/4 mile down from the dam before the Brooke trout creek. Sz 16Yellow soft hackles,sz 18 tan trout crack, and tan scuds killed little red. Most people were using midges there Close to the dam,but bigger stuff really worked a lot better. Fished the soft hackles up top with either one of the other two below I️t.

Thanks, Robert. I remember now fishing one time below the dam on the Little Red next to the parking lot in the park and catching 4 or 5 rainbows using a black bugger, i.e., a larger fly. I will be fishing on the Little Missouri below Lake Greeson later this week if the wife and I make a trip to Hot Springs area.
