I'm betting that the company got forced into this (and bankruptcy) by Obama's anti-coal EPA directives. Private groups were also suing them for cleaner air. Upgrading the plant probably wasn't financially feasible in today's low power market. The two plants closest to me don't run at very high capacity much anymore either.

Yep it will be different! Plant is running today. Went over the bridge on lake about 6:00 PM and the lake was steaming in the cold air.

Welsh is also changing to an "as needed" plant for power. Friend was out late last week and temps at outlet only in the mid 70's. Heavy grass up north.

Individual power plants compete with each other on how much their power costs. For example, then TXU needs more power on a hot summer day, the ask for bids. If your plants wins the bid, TXU will pay for the power that plant adds to the grid. As more "modern" and more efficient power plants are built, the older, less efficient power plants cannot compete. It's just too expensive for them to run their generators.

Probably to early to know but I wonder if they will drop the slot and make it a State Regulation lake would be a good lake to add in the tour schedule. Hopefully they want close lake once PP shuts down.

Has the lake been packed? Going to either Fork or Monticello Saturday but having a hard time choosing between the two.

This is correct, I work in a natural gas combined cycle plant In Brideport. we have to be available with a certain amount of Mega watts and when one of these other plants "trip" the cost of the Mega watts goes up. we compete with the wind turbines too they get priority on the market which hurts us.

From what I Hear the age of the Monticello palnt was a big factor. the maintenance cost was not worth it, along with them not being efficent now that alot of plants have started to "cycle".

From what I read they are considering changing the current slot 14-24 to 16-24 so instead of doing away with slot just tweaking it a bit. I would thing that with no warm water the bass would not grow as fast/Big but I guess they want to try and keep it a trophy lake, Will still fish it even when it turns into a cold water lake.

The price of natural gas and the lack of lignite to fuel these 3 units are the cause of the closure. PRB is very costly to have railed in!

Yes, lots of boats weekends. Week days still a good amount, but not near as many
