Just picked up a Whopper plopper last week and have caught 2 of the biggest bass of my life standing on a dock. viscious strikes. Question is will the top water plug get bit in deeper water or do I just hit shore line?
Both fish came from 3 ' water. Thx for any help

To answer your question simply, yes. I have caught fish on top water over 35ft of water before.

Unless it's real clear water or schooling fish keep it shallow.

They will def hit a topwater plug in deeper water if the conditions are right. Water clarity, weather conditions, etc have to be right. Recent post-spawn fish will suspend off long points over deeper water and will hit a topwater plug especially in the deeper rocky clear water lakes.

Caught fish on a Zara Spook (Pre-Whopper Plopper) in 40' of water on Lake Ouachita in Ark. Hydrilla out to 23 feet in very clear water. Caught fish in 70' of water on Table Rock lake on top too.

I remember Larry Nixon winning a tournament on Beaver Lake ( may have been Table Rock ) fishing a spook in 70 FOW.
But yeah the water was really clear.

Surprised a 25 lb. Striper didn't take it away on Beaver.

There's some bigguns there no doubt. Nice rainbow trout in the river below too.

In general deep water topwater fishing is not a great strategy. They will definitely hit one under the right conditions, but it's not typical. I'd guess 95% of topwater strikes come in 6 feet of water or less.
