I have never used trimmer line, I would think it would be too stiff to tie. I use 80lb mono and never have tangling issues.

You should be using twisted line for jugs, same as with trotlines.

you will need the clamps they use on cable, that you put two pieces thru and crimp with dikes. A long time ago I used trimmer lines on my jugs, at any rate it turned out to be a less than stellar idea. It will work but not at all necessary, but if you so choose go ahead and make em up.

ok thanks, probably just use the twisted line. I just have a hard time not tangling them up.

A lot of people use weed eater line for big planner boards.

I have used weedeater string for jugs and it works awesome and doesn't tangle. I buy several colors so it's easier to see what you're doing. My main line is blue, bottom hook a few feet off the bottom is red, middle hook may be yellow and top leader green. As far as securing everything, I cut some thin copper tubing and crimped it but not too tight or you weaken it. Not sure what an easier alternative would be for handcuffing copper which was very time consuming but does make great crimpers. You can't tie it. For stationer jug lines weedeater string works great but for free floating jugs I prefer the black tarred string from Walmart or Academy

I rig alot of duck decoys using 400 lb test Mono. Started rigging jugs like this. Main line tarred nylon 550lb test at depth for drop tie a knot slide on barrel swivel and tie another knot. Slide crimp on mono ,mono thru swivel back thru crimp . Slide sinker bumper on mono slide 3" cigar float on and follow with another bumper. Then another crimp, hook of your choice and crimp. Leave enough room for the hook to swivel. We started to use this setup and have a better hookup ratio on Blues and flatheads than the old way.

Nice I wish i would have known about those 8 years ago when I built my stationary jug lines! I would use weedeater string in a heart beat if they sell those crimps big enough for some small weedeater string. Hand cutting copper tubing was a pain in the butt for as many crimps as I needed but the weedeater string has worked so great!

Tractor supply has the crimps. They are in the electric fence section. They are around 5 bucks for 50

Good to know! That saves me time ordering online and shipping without actually physically seeing what I'm buying. I'm going to buy some just in case I need to repair any juglines or build new ones.

I fish stationary jug lines in winter and spring. I made a trimmer line setup one time after reading about it somewhere. Probably used it 8-10 times over a 4-5 year period. WE caught enough fish to feed the church each year. I never caught a single fish on that setup. It was made the same as the rest of my lines except for the material. Don't have a clue why it would not work! Guess my cats don't do yard work. Finally gave it the boot.
