Enjoyed a nice float on the Tuckasegee River in western North Carolina with my son last week. Rained the whole morning but the fishing was pretty good. Not a lot of trout but good size. Between us we caught four browns and two rainbows, with the largest brown going about 5 pounds. My fish came on a stone fly imitation; my son cheated and used spinning gear and a roostertail, but he feels no remorse since he caught the biggest fish. Our guide, Micah Allen with Fly Fishing the Smokies was outstanding - hard working and fun to fish with. We had a great time on the trip, despite the rain.

Healthy looking fish right there. Had some of my best days ever in the rain.

A beautiful river that flows just south of Smoky Mountains National Park and forms Fontana Lake on the western edge of North Carolina. Stayed in a hillside cabin above Bryson City - very pretty part of the country.
