This last week has been pretty good at the PCJ. Most guys are using live mullet and still catching a few slot and bull reds. The evening bite has been good for speckled trout on small silver spoons, rattletraps, and mullet imitating Mirrolures. Post cold front, the water really dropped out of the bay through the pass at the jetties. This brought some really big croaker through. I caught a half dozen over 14" Saturday morning. Biggest was 16". The surf side was holding lots of smaller croaker along with some sandtrout. The guys using live shrimp also put some nice black drum on ice. The drum seemed to be closer to the beach on the surf side of the south jetty. I caught most of my fish this week on frozen table shrimp.
Tip on the shrimp .... buy the 2 lb bags of frozen head on shrimp from HEB. It's table quality so it doesn't stink up your hands. You can split a portion out into a ziplock bag and keep the rest frozen and fresh until you need it. Speaking of fresh, take care of your shrimp when you're out for a long day on the rocks. Only thaw a few at a time and keep the rest on ice in your cooler next to the bud light. You'll catch better quality fish on the fresher bait. Try it .... it really works. And, if you have any left over you can eat it when you get home!
