Not sure if this allowed in the LM section, if you ever have the opportunity to catch one I would highly recommend a peacock trip for these beautiful mean and aggressive bass! And make sure you bring a bocagrip as they will have your hands bleeding by the end of the day if you handle them like a largemouth..

Awesome looking fish! I really want to go to Florida and catch some. How was the fight compared to a LMB?

They are very aggressive and have an attitude and don't like anything in (their space)! They fight very hard and make lots of runs so I advise loosening your drag and play them to the boat. I really can't imagine catching those 15-20 lb'ers with the attitude they have! And you also mix in some 5 lb largemouth's while you are there. It's amazing that all those freshwater fish are literally a mile from the Atlantic!

Peacocks are all over south Florida, as far north as West Palm beach and expanding their range north. Lived down that way for 25 years. If anyone is in the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport area and want to catch a peacock without having to go the guide route, the spot below was my honey hole for them.

Peacocks to 5 lbs, old resident snook to 20, and tarpon in the 10 to 20 lb range.. all in one spot. The fish had definitely come back from when the article below was written.

^^^^^^^ this! lconn4 thanks for the intel!! We caught them in Lake Ida and connecting canals in Delray Beach. Really wanted a Clown Knife fish which were all around us but wouldn't commit. I have 1 more week in FL so I might make the drive south again and try for those Tarpon and Snook! So far FL has been great to me with a personal best largemouth and the the peacocks mixed in, I can see why FL is so popular with anglers as there are so many options from Salt to Fresh...

Spent some time in Brazil when I was active duty Navy. Used to catch them in the rivers there. Good gamefish and outstanding on the table.

There are only two states in the US that have peacock bass; Florida and Hawaii. Those are the only places in the US where the water temps are high all the time and can support them. I had an opportunity to fish them in Hawaii during a vacation two years ago. They are fun.
