The American Cancer Society in association with the Ray Hubbard Bass Club and Scott Gordon Outdoors held the second annual Fish For A Cure benefit tournament yesterday, October 21st on Lake Ray Hubbard. All proceeds from the tournament were donated to the American Cancer Society. 60 boats came out to fish with us. I arrived at Bass Pro in Garland at 4:00AM yesterday to find the flag on top of the building flapping strongly in a stiff south wind. While the temperatures were warm, the wind made sure no one was going to have an easy day on the lake. One thing about Ray Hubbard, when she gets nasty, the fish tend to bite. That was the case yesterday as several teams brought in close to 20 pounds and one team eclipsed the 20 pound mark. There were eight bass over 6 pounds brought to the scales and another just under 6. When it was over, the team of Steve Black and Eric Krause weighed in a huge limit of 21.03 pounds to take the victory. Big bass of the event was a 7.64 toad weighed in by the second place team of Kelly Langhorne and Jeremy Collins. Here are full results and pictures.

Scott Gordon was our Tournament Director and circus ring leader. That's me (my best side) taking direction from Scott. To my right was Arigayle Head from ACS and her assistant Adriana Perez who were selling raffle tickets and event shirts. Controlled chaos!

The first team to weigh in let us know what type of day many had. The team of Victor and Pamela Wickman came in with a limit for 10.61 and Pamela caught a solid 4.21 chunk.

Not everyone brought in giants, but they were still smiling.

Mark Hall was one of the tournament sponsors and fished with James Crawford from RHBC. They weighed in three for 6.91

Bryce Glick fished with Solomon Toelkes and weighed five for 9.11. Bryce's pup is a regular at our meetings and tournaments

Another of our sponsors was Illustrious Action Lures. Russell Olds and Matt Jackson weighed five for 9.46

Seemed like every team had a kicker yesterday!

I believe this was the team of Rich Lewis and Barry Simpson. (Sorry, I didn't know everyone) They temporarily took over big fish with a 6.48

Another Ray Hubbard big girl. If you know who this guy is, please give him credit for this beast!

RHBC Members Clint and Nolan Yeager weighed four for 10.66

James Weir and Colt Lowery had a limit for 14.22 that included a 4.74 kicker. Here's James with their two best.

Joey Bryant fished with David Howe. They weighed four for 14.27 and included a 5.36 kicker. Joey pictured here is the President of the Bass Club of North Texas who were kind enough to host me at their September meeting. Several teams from their Club came out to fish with us yesterday including our winners! Thank you!

More of those RHBC guys! Chadd Dearen and Shane Henderson weighed a limit of 14.53, but that included a 7.26 giant.

Joe Ruiz and Charles Lawson had four for 14.62 that included a 6.09 anchor fish.

2016 RHBC Anglers of the Year Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace weighed a solid limit of 15.63

Collyn Eastham and Robert Patterson had a limit that weighed 15.74 and included a 7.05 kicker.

Two of the best people you will ever meet and two pretty good fisherman too. Vince Burt and Mark Werner got 10th place with five for 15.87

Brandon Putnam and Joey Deans are always a threat on Ray Hubbard. They weighed a great limit of 17.07 yesterday to finish ninth

I love it when fishing is a family affair! Here's Thomas Ross and Chris Winter and all the boys. Thomas and Chris weighed five for 17.43 and finished seventh.

Chad Maddux and Luke Meeks finished sixth with a big limit of 17.89 and also included a 7.05 kicker fish.

Somehow our fifth place finishers slipped past our camera. Ray Hubbard regulars Doc Taylor and Shawn Castonguay had five for 18.51. If anyone got a picture, please send it to me!

Brian Fox was part of last years winning team. This year he fished with Jordan Lane. They weighed a great sack of 19.90 and finished fourth.

Finishing third was the team of Kyle Hay and Keegan Johnson. SO close to 20 pounds, they weighed a limit for 19.92 with their big fish going 5.96

Second and fourth place were separated by .03 pounds! Finishing second with five for 19.93 was the team of Kelly Langorne and Jeremy Collins. Their bag included the big bass of the event, a 7.64 giant

Here are your winners! Weighing in a monster limit of 21.03 that included the second biggest fish of the event at 7.39 are Steve Black and Eric Krause. Congratulations guys!

A Huge thank you to Preston Smith and the great people at Texas Nameplate who created custom FFAC measuring boards for the top three finishing teams and for big bass.

I hope to have a few more pictures to post later this week. I will also do a thank you post later this week naming names.

First and foremost let me say that the most important part of this day was the fact that all of us combined to raise $28,000.00 for the American Cancer Society!

Part of our crew after a LONG but highly successful day. Left to right are David Simmons, James Crawford, Arie Head, Scott Gordon, Adrianna Perez and myself. Thanks to everyone that came out and fished, those that sponsored the event and those that bought raffle tickets and shirts. You ALL put is a little further down the road to stopping cancer.

I shared this with Tom after the event on Saturday but thought it would be well worth it to share my thoughts here on TFF. I've enjoyed hosting charity tournaments in North Texas for over a decade and I am still in awe how our bass fishing community comes together to support, sponsor, donate, and participate! It has been through these events that I came to really appreciate our "angler community", and especially all of the members of the "Ray Hubbard Bass Club". The amount of work behind the scene is extraordinary and time consuming. Tom and "the crew" (Tom Brouillette, Brad Reagen, Brian Roether, Dale Rettman, Dave Simmons, David Burton, James Crawford, Jason Hunnicutt, Kelly Millhollon, Kenny Bunch, Paul Spann, Ronnie Manning, Russell Olds, and Ari and her team at the ACS) worked throughout the year and their effort made this event a huge success for the second consecutive year! Please forgive me if I left any names off! This fine group of people have really made a difference!

Thank you to my friends in the fishing industry that helped out with the Fish for a Cure tournament last Saturday! I sure appreciate the generous product and service donations you all made! Some went above and beyond, with special thanks to the HUGE box of product from Andi Ivan Sanders (Talon Custom Lures)!!! Thank you guys for the guide trips (Jason Barber, Bret Mclendon) thank you Ronnie Parker for taking time out of your busy day to donate some products! Matt Martin (Martin pro outdoors) and his wife (Tiffany from Belfiore Salon, Rockwall) both donated products from their jobs, thank you! Carol Manning thank you for donating the JC Penney gift bag!! Together, we helped make a difference in the fight against cancer!! I thank you with all of my heart! I see this devastating disease in my career of medical imaging! I hate it! I despise it! I want it eradicated!!

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club was able to raise $28,000 in the fight against Cancer! I am very proud to be associated with this wonderful group of exceptional anglers! Thank you all!! And thank you Scott Gordon and weigh in crew! You guys rock! I
