mine quit giving 2D readouts but SI works.I think
the wire got pinched where it slides up against the trolling motor shaft housing. I put another transducer but this time I notched out a little groove channel in the housing so that the wire can sit in the groove. and not get pinched.

I would like to have the other one fixed as a spare.. I split and resoldered all of the wires, but the transducer isnt making the pinging noise,(ticking) so I dont know if the crystal piezzo went bad or what.

Steve, this will not help you for SI but will confirm transducer wiring can be repair. Several years ago I had an HB 597 or 598 on the bow and the cable got nicked badly. This unit was 2D/DI (no SI). I successfully spliced the cable, soldered all wiring, shielded them, and put it all back with the proper protective sleeve, etc. It worked just as good before getting nicked.

So I don't know if your rework is the cause or your crystals are bad. I am just confirming reworking the cables can be done.

Yes they can be repaired as Jimmy has mentioned above however if it is an area that will be below the water line it is recommended to replace the transducer and not repair it. Reason being, if any water gets into the repaired area you will fry the head unit.

Good point David; hadn't given that any thought.

Mine was below the water line so I guess I did a good job of waterproofing it. I love heat shrink. I heat shrank each solder joint individually, then did a heat shrink over all of it, then electrical tape then one large heat shrink over that. It was a bulge for sure, but it worked.
