Allen and Prosper have a city ordinance against it. I think McKinney does also.

Any pond in Stonebridge is definitely out.

I've launched a kayak in many City of Dallas ponds with no problems.

Carrollton does on most of their ponds. I say most because I'm not sure about the big one by the senior center/Library. Ken Good, McInnish, Colonial House Lake, and all the trinity flood control lakes are allowed.

Prosper Town Lake has a no kayak ordinance now? In the past, this lake was always exempt.

I posted about this over on the DFW Kayak Fishing FB page. I was stopped by a local cop on Saturday morning. He told me that there was an ordinance and just wanted to make me aware. Then then told me that he doesn't care what I do after he drives away. I ended up launching and fishing a few hours. There were other kayaks out there too. He mentioned that they have been told to start enforcing it more.

Another guy replied that the same thing happened to him about a month ago. Same response from the cop, I'm driving away now and not looking. At least the cops are really cool about it, but I think it's only a matter of time before someone gets a ticket out there.

A few of us are talking to city officials to see what can be done about this. It seems like a ridiculous law for that body of water as big as it is.

I can't help but think this is being pushed by the Whispering Farms HOA though, since all the traffic goes through their neighborhood??? Especially when the cop told me that are being asked to start enforcing the ordinance....

Prosper has always had the ordinance, but Prosper Town Lake was always exempt. The last update I have unfortunately was from the city officials back in 2013 stating it was exempt. I had to save the e-mails to share with the officers that tried to tell me that kayaking was not allowed.

If you have those emails, and you wouldn't mind, could you forward them to me? I have spoken with one of the city councilmen and he wasn't even aware that the ordinance existed. He is going to bring it up at the next meeting on the 24th to try and get some clarification for us. Unfortunately I will be out of town for work next week, otherwise I would go to the meeting myself.

PM me if you want me email address
Brian

From what I can remember they changed the ordinance about 2 years ago. It was because the people who live on the lake pushed the city council to do it. They just want their own little private lake. I could be remembering incorrectly though.

People bout there on kayaks is the least of their worries. Their own landscapers going to the lake and trashing it is the issue. Beer bottles and fast food trash. They will never get it to be private though.

Thats the feeling I got from the cop who talked to me. Especially when he said they were being pressured to enforce it more.
