We all lose fish, but this one was a monster. I got a little splash on a frog this morning but he didn't take it, I let that area rest for a few minutes then I tossed in my frog again but with more of a popping motion and he sounded like a peacock bass hitting top water. He immediately it started stripping drag, I kept him coming in and trying to keeping from jumping, I was in some pretty heave cover and.... he did, and out came my frog. Hard to say how big he was, but it was well over 8lbs.. 40 plus year of bass fishing and I think I can remember every big one I've ever lost, one more for the books!

You caught him......99%. Still something to be excited about. The odds of fooling a BIG fish into biting your lure once means you got game. Doing it twice to the same fish in one day means you got for real game. Ha.
I'm sure you'll hook another soon.

I'm sure you'll hook another soon. That's exactly how I see it, I always release... that was my quick release method. <><

It beats staining 60 2x2s to finish up a back porch Pergola. I wish I could have missed one today. I would rather miss 2,3,4 fish than get no bites at all. It will make you a better fisherman and probably more determined too at least thats what it does for me. Good story thanks for sharing.

I feel your pain sir. Many year ago I was walking a Zara Spook through some standing timber on Fork in May. All of a sudden a fish hit the plug about 20' from the boat so hard it looked like a Volkswagen drove off in the lake on top of my bait!! The strike was so violent it caused my adrenaline to shoot up and I set the hook way too hard. My 20# brown Maxima snapped on the hookset. I sat down in the boat cussing and started digging through my box for another plug. While I was trying to calm down and tie on another bait, one of my customers said, "There's your bait!" It had popped to the surface close enough to the boat that I simply reached out my rod tip and lifted it from the water. I was almost scared to lean out over the water and grab the bait. I thought JAWS might come out of the water after me! In all of my years of fishing THAT was the most violent topwater bite I have ever experienced. I'm gonna say she went 14 pounds!!
