So I was off of work today 10/9/17. I decided to go fishing at Lake Lewisville. I pulled my boat up by the FISHING BARGE and found myself getting yelled at by Rudy (the guy working at the barge.) He told me i couldn't fish by the FISHING BARGE I had to leave. It was private property. I had to be 150 ft away. He threatened to call the game warden on me and went and got his camera. So I covered my TX numbers with my life jacket. I told him I didn't want any trouble that I just wanted to fish. I told him it was public waters and I should be able to fish there. So when I got home, I called the local Denton County game warden and he told me to fish on! That I did nothing wrong. SO THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE COMES OUT AND TELLS YOU TO LEAVE THE FISHING BARGE AREA WHEN YOU ARE IN A BOAT, DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! FISH ON!

YOU CAN FISH RIGHT NEXT TO THE FISHING BARGE DON'T LET THE LITTLE MAN RUDY COME OUT AND TELL YOU DIFFERENT.....

You know, there is an ordinance against harassing a person fishing. Just tell him you intend to notify the Warden as well.

Quote from https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/hunting/general-regulations/laws-penalties-restitution:

> Harassment of hunters, trappers or anglers (Sportsmen's Rights Act) is punishable by a fine of $200 to $2000 and/or 180 days in jail.

Seems to be class B misdemeanor, it looks like it can be upgraded to class A for repeated offenders.

As long as a boater isn't touching their property (the barge, dock, and any breakwaters the may have up), anyone fishing on the public waters of the lake has every right to fish near it.

As a matter of courtesy, I wouldn't get within casting distance of the barge, as the people paying to fish there are limited to the water around them.

Personally, I would have not covered up any TX numbers but pulled out my own phone and started recording him!
Then asked him to please do go ahead and call the game warden. And offer to make that call for him if he didn't want to do it.

As far as distance away from the paying customers, I agree with Zeek. As with most things, common courtesy is usually appropriate. I like to try to think of things as if the shoe was on the other foot.

Rudy sounds like a jerk and a bully. By now, he's bound to know the laws and likely just tries to bully people so he can bluster and get his way. I don't care much for people like that. Management probably orders it. It's been going on at that place for 40 years probably with different "Rudys" but it sounds like they train the new ones to behave like that. I expect it's the same thing at lots of marina's on lots of lakes. Just have to call their bluff.

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

The only reason I even considered fishing there was because I did not see anyone fishing on the outside and since it was Monday morning I figured it was a good time to give it a go without interrupting anyone else. I don't intrude on bank fisherman either because I was the bank guy at one time. I think the guy working there was just doing what he was told without educating himself to the rules.

Fish "off" the barge, then yell at him as he grabs your rod and reel!

Roll video and post!
It's time to spice up the Open Water Discussion page!

Lewisville is a big lake with plenty of fishing spots. I would just leave even though fishing from a boat there is within the law just as Uncle Zeek has stated. Fishing is supposed to be a good way to relax & forget about life's problems. Why complicate the day?

Not trying to get down on the OP and sorry if this is taken in that context, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I have a question along those same lines. What about the areas around the marinas that the marina have roped off or designated as no fishing areas that are open water? Do the same rules apply ? Example on GV scotts landing has the area by their parking lot designated as no fishing - same rules ?
