Interested to see different opinions on this
Here’s my general preferences per lure weight
1/4 oz or less lure (like a jerk bait or 1/4 oz rattle trap)— -1X 1/4oz to 1/2oz lure (example: sq bills, small topwaters to 1/2oz lipless)— -2X 1/2oz to 1.5oz lures (deep cranks and big topwaters)— 3X Lure weighs more than 1.5oz—4X

I do 2x on everything except big topwaters, deep divers, and glides step it up to 3x on those. I have yet to have a hook failure on a 2x hook though. I run 12-15lb line on most moving baits and it's almost impossible to open a hook up with that line size.

Definitely like the 2X—very versatile and thin wire enough to penetrate well if they swipe at it

I fish 2 or 3 X on nearly everything and MOSTLY short shank hooks, too. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Depends on cover, too, fishing timber, I go with the 2X, MOST of the time.
