I had a 2014 Z9 and loved it. I sold it, and bought a 2016 Z21 with only 29 hours. However, I bought it from a second owner of the boat (the original owner became terminally ill). The motor had the platinum warranty for another 3 years so that was my main concern. After buying it from out of state (first mistake), I have noticed that it has a crack in two places on the top rail where the silver metal flake and the white fiberglass adjoin. It is hard to see and I just missed it when buying it, as I was concerned primarily with motor and trailer on a boat that was used so little. I called Nitro after buying the boat to see about talking to someone about the cracking. I spoke with two different people, and I both basically told me "tough sh**" that all Nitro warranties are only good through the second owner regardless of the boats age. I don't even think the small crack is that big of deal, but for all you thinking of buying a used Nitro of any age....beware of this!

Maybe you should have checked the warranty BEFORE buying. If it is no big deal, why are you so upset?

Buyer beware of what? Nitro's warranty is similar to most other manufacturers if not better. You're the 3rd owner so no telling what its been through in the past.

Too - remember that a warranty is only as good as the company giving it. 29 hours - wow!

I've seen it on other boat brands too. Seen brand new ones with cracks from other brands.

Don't recall him saying he was ''so upset'', just trying to fairly warn others that even though low hours are on boat, still might not be on any warranty.

Yep^^^^^^^ this x100. Nitro customer service sucks pretty much (although I have heard of some dealers who are good)

As mentioned on the other site u might just be able to buff it out? Did u talk to a fiberglass guy? Might costs u $25 and no time without the boat. I mean it is a gel coat crack, which manufacturer is going to fix a small gel coat crack on a 2+ year old boat?

Same warranty as 95% of the others.

That stinks. I don't blame you for being a little upset. I recently bought a travel trailer (2016 Solaire 267BHSE) and found it had a couple of delamination spots right when we got it home. They were small bubbles, but those things can grow and turn in $10,000 repairs. So I called the dealer (Fun Town RV in Cleburne) and asked if they could just kindly call the manufacturer to see if they could help and they each ended up paying for half of it.

Neither of them had to do anything, but both of them stepped up to the plate to help a customer who had just spent a bunch of money on a product that was too new to be having basic structural issues. Nitro had the chance to do the same thing. It is certainly their right to deny a claim like this, but with what boats cost these days, you just have higher expectations than for a gel coat crack in a 1-2 year old boat. If a new boat was $15k, you might not feel like it would be that big of a deal to live with the problem. But when they cost as much as a small house, our standards are going to be higher and theirs should be to.

Well that sentiment should be across all brands right? These are small gel coat cracks. Very common across all brands. And almost all would deny this under warranty on 2 to 3 year old boat.

This is a 2016 boat in 2017, right? At most, it's barely 2 years old (assuming 2018 models just hit the lots now). On average, it's about 1.5 years old. Kind of crazy for us to just accept failure of the basic boat coating in 1.5 years on a $50k rig.

Agree that it should be across all brands that don't prioritize customer service and satisfaction ahead of profit on obvious manufacturer defects like this.

then there is the possibility of it not being a failure one of the previous owners could have bumped a dock with it lets remember back a couple of years ago a guy got on here an whined that the whole bottom just blew off his boat it went for about sixteen pages of bashings an no other boat company would not take care of it the boat went back to the factory an it was deemed that impact had caused the failure an not a factory defect. an ins in reality if you buy a used boat you don't know how it was taken care of .

I wasn't whining....the purpose of the post was just let people know that regardless of whether a boat is 6 months old or 1.5 years old if it goes to the third owner there isn't any warranty. That was it. Basscat appears to be the only boat that I am aware with a transferrable hull warranty past the third owner. I had always either bought a new boat or a boat way past the warranty period. SO yes it is my fault. I was just posting for people that wasn't aware of it (and there have been some). It is disheartening to have a $50k boat that's 1.5 years old and the manufacturer not even willing to look at it, but yes they have a business to run and I understand that.

Secondly, I have now talked to three fiberglass places and showed it to a couple and they all had the same conclusion. Its not caused from any kid of impact as it is happening in three places and different sides of the boat and I will post couple pics so you can see that. It cant be "buffed" out according to the three places that do it for a living. It is more than likely one of three things, and when I get done with last tournaments will let them dig into it. Its either overlap of clear gel coat from one color to another creating a rough ugly edge, or the tape edge that during the manufacturing process wasn't done correctly, or and I pray not is a defect in the hull mold that is causing the crack to run in the same place on the boat. As of this morning the crack is now in three different places (although the same location throughout). The cracks range in length from 3"-9". I wasn't asking for sympathy or people telling me I should have read that the warranty. I am aware of this.

I don't like it when companies warranty the customer and not the product...doesn't make sense to me and shouldn't be allowed. If you are going to give a specific time period for a warranty why does it matter how many people owned it. I would pick another company to do business with.
