Making a trip up there first time since lake came up. Any underwater hazards to look for? Heard the bite was small fish, and lake had a lot of grass. Any info on area to start, what they chasin, just general stuff to start out. Thanks in advance.

If you are putting in at the bridge, run the west bank past pump station point ti the small island. That pocket is full of hydrilla and a Chatterbait or Swimbait on the outside edges. There is also a shallow rocky point there too. You should get bit.

We were there a couple weeks ago and did alright and had a couple nice fish. There is grass everywhere and we had our best luck where 2 types came together. Caught them on whopper ploppers early and most fish came on watermelon red brush hogs Texas rigged with 1/8oz sinker.

Thanks to those who have posted. Went Sun. and ended up launching at bridge only after finding the dam ramp to flat to launch by myself water up to drivers door, forgot boots. Went to pump house area and found the grass had blow ups on ribbits managed a few small ones. Spinners, chatterbait, swim bait on edges no takers. Ran around few more shorties then found a clump of grass that could punch with a 3/4 weight, only one I had, did manage 2 keepers only in 2lb range. Whole new lake with all that water looks great. Going back Fri. with bigger weights and punch that grass hopefully they're there. Going to explore the upper end from bridge, could never get up there before with low water should be fun.

Donald, have you ever rigged that heavy dropshot setup with a straight shank hook? Curious to see what that would do....

Exactly what I was thinkin. Super duty drop shot. Thanks Donald will give that a try. Now to find the weight. What size is that about 1oz or bigger? Looks like 2 separate ties mainline to hook, and single line to weight.

palomar, run tag end through the eye of the hook to get it to stick out perpendicular to the line

Lenny, just follow the red & silver Nitros around and fish the bent rod pattern. Heard they are biting that way! Good luck.

No; I haven't. My hookup ratio is as good as it gets; so nothings broke don't try to fix it.

I leave the tag end at about 4 inches. Just put an overhand knot on the end of the line. I use a slip knot, very simple to hold the weight on. The braid is 50 lb. Stren. If the weight happens to hang up in grass and hardwood then I can do a straight pull to release the weight and bring in the fish. The weights are sold in the salt water section at Cabala's and BPS called trolling weights in 1 oz.. I will use 1.5 on heavy matt. They come with a swivel on them; but I cut that off. The line doesn't twist. This set up will make it's own hole in the grass. You do not have to hunt one to pitch into. It comes out with no grass on it like a jig does many times.

Edit: I have won more tournaments on Amistad with this setup than any bait. I have used every creature bait there is and none will beat Watermelon/Neon.
