Spent Saturday in San Marcos taking my daughter shopping and a few of her friends out for supper for her 21st Birthday. Let me tell you, it's true when they say don't blink. I know it hasn't been easy on Kaitlynn being raised by a male since the age of 6 and at times she probably felt more like a son than a daughter. She has been my hunting and fishing partner ever since she could walk. But, most of all she has been a faithful friend throughout some troubling times. I can honestly say that she has absolutely been the greatest addition in my life. She has turned into a wonderful Godly young lady. Her faith inspires me every day and her dedication to her education is amazing. Went to Church on Sunday morning then decided to head to the lake for the afternoon just to reflect on the wild but amazing "ride" she and I have shared. Fished from 2-6pm and put 14 keepers in the box. No monsters this trip just good eaters. Water is still "coffee" colored and the lake level is high. Fish were caught in 15-20FOW and suspended at about 12'. Fish wanted solid white in BPS "Jake" on a plain 3/32oz jig head. I tried pink head in BES and a chartreuse head with white body but had no takers.

Columbus took a chance and he made it.

Great job, Dad! Having been raised by a single mother at the age of 10 and beyond, I can relate (except for the female part). My mom took me and my friends fishing all the time. One of my friends had divorced parents too in the 70s/early 80s She'd take us to fishing barges, creek bank fishing, and to the Coastal Bend for reds and trout every Thanksgiving. Now I appreciate those days, despite my kids never really getting into fishing w/me.

Not only did you raise her right and she's got a bright future ahead of her (like my daughter Aimee who heads for A&M next Fall), but you did it solo! You SHOULD be PROUD!

Congratulations and a job well-done, both you and her!

Best of luck in the future to you both. fish flag clap

Thanks for all the comments. I told Kaitlynn about the Birthday wishes and she says "Thank them for me Dad".

I was blessed to have a Mom who took me fishing as well. She was a teacher and had summers off while my dad worked. She would take me to Port Lavaca to the pier starting when I was about 8yrs old. We would go to Evelyn's bait stand and she would buy me some fresh dead shrimp. She would take her lawn chair, umbrella, and book. While I fished she would catch up on her reading. My dad would make a couple of week long trips a year with his buddies down to Cedar Bayou in the 70's. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to go because I was too young. I would get upset that I couldn't go until I was about 15yrs old. Looking back I know he was just being a responsible dad. Wading Cedar Bayou was dangerous and no place for a child. Kaitlynn's first trip on the boat was when she was about 4yrs old. My dad was adamant about going because he said you need an extra set of eyes with a child on the boat. When the day was over and we made it home dad made a comment about how Kaitlynn had imitated every move I made on the boat that day. From putting my foot on the gunnel to the way I popped the rod to the way my eyes searched the water for activity. His comment was "Son, if that is not a testament on how to raise your child I don't know what is". I asked him what he meant and he said "your children will act and do as you do". That was probably one of the most sound pieces of advice he gave me in regards to raising a child. He passed away a little over 5yrs. ago and I miss his wisdom every day. I've been blessed with a very supporting family and an amazing God who has been with me every step of the way.

Awesome post!! Nothing like time with family, especially time on the water...and she is representing your alma mater!! It looks like you guys shared a little slime time. Keep those lines tight and memories near to your heart Mr.Edwards. Of all the things that you've shared with her, the most important is Christ... Priceless
