Looks like a thin shadow line below the crack. If it is cracked all the way down might have been an old repair that is failing. I would have a glass shop take a look.

It might.
Sort of a strange place for a stress crack. Looks like he might have slid off a stump and hit that sponson just right.
A plastic mallet or screwdriver tapped around will tell you quick if there is water intrusion.

Any hull that vintage will have a few dings you just don't want a cancer case.

could be a screw from putting the rub rail on coming from the top down that progresivly gets worse.

The shadow looks like a water stain from water running out of the crack to me. That usually means water intrusion and should be repaired by a pro. I am not a pro and could be wrong but bough.

Yes...that looks like a deeper crack than just the gelcoat.
