Headed out to Somerville this Sunday morning and launched out of Welch Park via the bank, as the lake was still up about 17ft. or so (at least that's what the gentlemen told me over at the entrance to Overlook Park, where I erroneously thought I could launch). Started chunkin' topwaters, squarebills, and various cranks around the flooded trees along the shoreline, but couldn't manage to land a single bite. Finally got on some bites near the Welch Park peninsula where there are a few campers and the boat ramp. Managed to focus on the gravel outer road on the south end of the peninsula (only area that seemed to be out of the breeze) throwing a 3/4oz swim jig with a trimmed-down swim Senko as a trailer. Just bounced that thing from one side of the submerged road to the other and managed to land five fish, while missing three more. The biggest was maybe a little more than 2.5lbs., so nothing to write home about. Overall, water was a little stained (dark tea color) and there was a lot of small floating particles like grass blades. Just needed to look for some fairly clean water . Off the water by 11am.

Great report, thanks for sharing thumb When the water is at normal level I fish that area in the mornings with my fly rod. I've had some good mornings when the largemouth are there chasing shad.

We were out there Saturday and launched at Welch. We fished all over the lake....mainly shallow. Had one blowup on a topwater and that's it. We were fishing playground structure, picnic tables, grills, flooded trees, etc....crazy stuff for that lake.

I did catch a few baby hybrids that were busting shad.

Glad you caught some!
